Tike War Question. 2013 vs 2014

Trike War Question. 2013 vs 2014

Am really not trying to start a "which one is better war". I have been approved to buy a trike. I have the option of a 2014 blue/black out the door for $34,905 or a 2013 black/silver, used/new, with only 30 miles for 30,000.00 out the door which also includes a 50 deductible 5 year extended warranty insurance and a Trident clear coat paint protection.

My question to the group is there any one here that has owned both and will give me the pro and/or cons of the above deal. $5,000.00 difference seems like a lot but the 14 does have some upgrades.

Thanks for any help.

My personal 2 cents. The '13 with full warranty is great. My '10 warranty has paid for itself many times over. Keep in mind the '14 is the first year of "water cooling" of exhaust. I never trust first year of anything. If you are a high mileage person, the long warranty is gold. I am not a big fan of those lowers that you can't remove on the '14 (reservoir in one) also.

IF you like riding with less obstructions, you can't take off the lower farings on the '14. You do get nifty electronics on the '14. We have '09 and '11 trikes. good luck!

I can't say much about the 2014, but my 2013 is Great. Best HD I've owned. There have been changes made between the two, and those are in the eye of the beholder. IMHO, I'd take the savings and go with the 2013 model. ThumbUp

I don't have one yet but will tell you to test ride each...then you will know why the 14 wins...I test rode a 13 before the 14 came out and didn't care for it much...when the 14 came out I got to test ride it and wanted it that minute...when talking 30k plus do it once and get what you want color and all...we are holding out for the 15 white and blue or the solid mysterious red...good luck with your pick...most of all be happy with your choice ,,,

Have to agree with ALL the above but strongly suggest you ride both - personally that '13 sounds sweet (love my '10) + look at all the goodies you can buy with the 5 bills!
:);)

Thanks for all the information. Still waiting to hear back on the 2013. From a quick review of the 2015 TG I don't see a lot of changes. I will be looking at 2012 TG also. The new electronics of the 2014 & 2015 make me nervous. Tony

I got a 2012 and am very happy with it, however I've made or added so many changes I'm not sure what year you would call it.The new electronics of the 2014 & 2015 make me nervous. Tony

The 15's are on the website-

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Motorcycles/tri-glide-ultra.html

I've owned an 11 (which is essentially the same as a 13) and now own a 14. I've enjoyed them both!

I do prefer the 14, with the only drawback being the lowers cannot be removed.

Glancing thru the HD site on the 15's, I did not see a lot of change between the 14's and 15's. The 15's do have ABS, first year for the Trikes. Another thing I did notice is they say "The top-of-the-line Hayes dual-disc assembly in back comes complete with hand-actuated parking brake.

But in the pictures I still see the foot actuated parking brake...maybe it has both?

Whichever you get, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

It's confusing what has and has not changed with the 15's, HD has nothing about the Triglide in their technical document for the 2015 MY. If anyone wants to read it here is a link https://app.box.com/s/4mj2bucym6yw2ctbu9sf It is a Power Point presentation.

I had a 2012 and now the 2014. If I knew a year ago what I know now, I would have kept the 2012 - mainly because I'm a CD person - I hate the new mp3 crap. Also the GPS is a POS - glad I kept my Zumo 660. I was also pissed off that I had to buy a $800 CB because H-D decided riders don't want a CB anymore = bullshit!!! If you use the hand mic for the CB you're in a lot of trouble.

I do like the more solid feel of the 2014 and the water cooling does seem to work in keeping the heat down - a little.
Hand brake on the 2012 was a joke. Foot brake is a lot better. Fairing vent is worthless if you have windshield pouches.

Whatever you get - get the ESP. Both of mine required major fixes. Best investment I made. I think the exhaust on the 2014 is a bit louder and mellower.
Which ever one you get, pay close attention to the wheels - they get crappy quickly. I replaced mine with the chrome Anarchy wheels.

Jury is still out on the tour-pac. I don't particularly like the sloping sides. They say there's more room(by about 1%) I just don't see it - especially with the sloping sides.

All in all, I do like the 2014. I am slowly but surely figuring out the Infotainment system/GPS/mp3 player. Still prefer the CD player since I have hundreds of CD's.

Good luck with your decision. ThumbUp

Actually I have owned a '13 and now own a '14.

I think the '14 is a much better bike personally. The engine is stronger. The clutch pull is smoother/easier. The infotainment system I LOVE! The storage in the tour pac is deeper. I just really like the fit and finish on the '14 so much more.

$5k difference is a lot. All I can offer for you is this: in MY opinion it was well worth the cost difference. Like others have said test ride both. Only you can decide what is the better option for you.

Mic's has several thousands worth of options too. Sounds like a good deal and the color is nice.

Gary all your CD's would fit on one thumb drive. I use one and never have to load a CD just pull up the screen and play the album I want.

Not all my CD's but probably a lot. Depending on the size. I only have some small ones.
I'm slowly but surely figuring it out. I was having a hard time getting the H-D unit to recognize albums - my major disappointment. I learned the H-D unit also doesn't recognize wav. files so I started saving as mp3's and it all seems to be coming together. Now I have to go back and change all those wav. files to mp3"s. More lost time. :(

I still like the convenience of CD's vs having to look through a long list of albums on a thumb drive to find the one I want. All I have to do with a CD is pop it in. It's good for about an hour at which time I'm usually making a pit stop so I put a new CD in and I'm good for another hour - no fiddling around looking for an album in a list of hundreds. Old habits die hard.

Maybe as I get more use to it, things will become clearer. :)

The GPS is a whole other story. It's way too limited for my purposes.

Well the trigger has been pulled.
My closest H-D Dealer is 75 miles West of me.
The 2012 TG sold before I had the time to look it over.
The 2013 TG, well a little bird in my head something was not right with this deal. I had a time trying to figure out what might be wrong with a used 2013 TG with only 10 miles.
Ended up with a 2014 Blue/Black TG.
Will post up pics when I have TG in my garage.
Thanks for all the excellent advice.

Congrats!!
I bought a 2013 kinda wish I would've waited a year and got the 2014 - just seem to like the 2014 better - although I'm darn happy with the 2013. I was thinking of trading it for a 2015 but decided to keep it for a couple more years. I've put too much into it already to trade it after only a couple of years.
Ride and Have Fun with it - they're a BLAST to ride!

Damn nice choice Tony! You do know the Big Blue Pearl/Vivid Black combo is the fastest trike out there..right? ;)

I've got to say .... with almost 4K on the clock my 2014 with stock exhaust is noticeably cooler running than it was with less than 1K. I did the Break-in staying at 3000 rpm max until 500 miles and 3250 until 750 miles religously. Switched to Syn3 at 1K in all 3 holes. Had oil changed at 2.5K Syn3 in motor, Formula + in Primary, BelRay 85W-140 in transmission.

I love everything about this 2.5K oil trifecta. Runs smooth. Shifts Great. Neutral is a breeze to find.

Love my 2014.

YES I will still be doing an exhaust, cam and tuner in the future .... but for now it does run great.

If all goes well I should have the TG this Tuesday. I'll most likely let my wife do the break in as I have a hard time keeping my wrist out of the throttle. After the 1000 mile break in I'll install FullSac headers, Rush mufflers, FuelMoto AC and a TTS. Not sure what I'll do for oil or primary fluid but will use Redline in the transmission.

TG will be a project vehicle for my wife and I as we only have a small garage. I feel the storage area on the TG's is very limited so we may look for a pull behind trailer.

I'm looking forward to riding the TG and the time my wife and I will spend working on it during the winter months.
