I have read through this thread and applied it to my years of observation as an American. Born before WWII and patriotic since a child, I have observed the decay in the American society. As far as politics is concerned the truism that is eternal is "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The idea of "statesmanship" gave was to the term "politician" died some sixty years ago when the public began excusing their "politicians" when they were members of their party affiliation. So what is the behavior of these politicians if not, I will do or say anything to purchase the votes of my constituents to stay in power. Now we are divided as a nation by political parties, we're the good guys and they're the bad guys. Lying to Americans has become common place. When it boils down to it most political speeches say two things; we didn't do it, it's their fault, and if you vote for me I'll buy you ice cream. Americans are so busy entertaining themselves with sports, movies, golf and any number of diversions from reality that they have now created the government that the majority deserve.
Socialism, Marxism or Communism, call it what you will is a failed concept that involves control of a society by a small group of elitist who do not live by the standards that they set for the societies that they control. The operative word here is control. There are those that will laugh at these concepts while the idea behind this creeps into a society by a slow drip. Totalitarianism begins by divide and concur but first an enemy must be created and for our present society it is the other guy, the rest is simple.
If we are to intellectually honest we must listen to the words and then observe the actions and outcome. When this is done it will be clear that the United States has lost its way completely and we as a nation are to blame. When you voted did your candidate take action to fulfill the promises? Did they even try? Were they blocked by politics. Who is doing the blocking. If your eyes are open the answers are obvious. Are we as a nation safer, happier and better off than we were 10, 20 or 30 years ago? WHY?
After having said all this I have been convinced for a couple of decades they when we take a real look this nation we are observing the slow disintegration of the United States of America. We are no longer united, our status in the world is rapidly diminishing. Our moral compass is in the trash we live on BS. WE REALLY DO NOT CARE as a nation and that is terminal.
