TG Trunk Door Popped Open. FIX?

@JUSTME1951,
It’s a common problem. The issue is: There is a very small percentage of engagement on the latch and the stud itself. Some will say it needs adjusted… which means adjusting the stud out further. Now that certainly may help, but now you’ve adjusted you door out further and now the door seal may have a slight gap and get water in the trunk.

Lastly: that lock bezel is plastic.That holds a roll pin and other parts including a spring. A spring has tension, and ends up breaking that bezel where the lock and spring sits, and then the push button is now comprised and won’t even open the trunk.

Some do get acceptable results with the “adjustment” of that stud, so try that first.That whole latch and lock mechanism is simply a “Piss Poor design”.

As mentioned, there is a company called “Iron head Tri Glide lock” and I purchased one and did a complete video on it including showing these faulty areas. It’s a GREAT addition, convenient and works flawlessly. That is my recommendation, but try adjusting it first.

Here’s the complete install video on that electric lock kit:

First thing, do not slam it shut, push it shut firmly, lock it always. I had that issue in my 14, adjusted the strike post as it was out of adjustment. Never had an issue after that in 15000 miles. Traded for a new to me 21 , no issues yet after 10000 miles..
