Probably need to do hand signals also. I would think they will skip circles and figure eights. But you never know what some clown tester thinks. Parallel parking might be checked. Good luck.
California is similar to SC in that no special license is required but the trike is titled, licensed and insured as a motorcycle.
We're in the process of relocating to North Carolina. What I've been told so far by DMV there is that I will need to get a motorcycle endorsement for my regular license. I can take the test on my trike but it won't be the standard motorcycle test. According to an email I got from them I'll meet with an examiner in an open parking lot somewhere and demonstrate that I have the ability to start, stop and safely control the trike.
In Texas you must take the MSF course in order to get a motorcycle license. Either the basic or trike course. The course exempts you from the road test.
Utah has no trike courses offered. So all you need is the MC certification, which is a written test, if you complete the MC saftey courses available through the state. I knew you were dying to know this!!!!:Trike1:
Wow, it really seems to vary state to state. In Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee you have to take the road test that is almost identical to that of a motorcycle. Main difference is that they adjust for the width of the trike. So you have cone weaves. You have your acceleration to approx 15mph and then a quick stop that you must make within a specified area. You have a swerve, also going at approx 15mph and then swerving to miss the object. Again, if they have a road test, these are some of the most common exercises. There's also one with a U-Turn. If you don't have the DMV (or BMV as the case may be), motorcycle manual for your state, you should get one.
When we were in Minnesota, if you took the 2 wheel motorcycle test that
endorsement covers 3 wheels. If you took the test on a trike or sidecar the endorsement would be limited to 3 wheels. When we moved to Arkansas my wife took the test on her VW based trike, and got a regular motorcycle license. The endorsements got automatically transfered to Missouri when we moved here.
In some states if you take an approved mc safety course yo won't have to take in the in the saddle test, though you will have to take the written test before you get the temporary learner's permit, if your state has one.
Every state seems to be different, get the motorcycle handbook from your state DMV. That should have the info you need.
