static noise in intercom

Has anyone had trouble with noise in their intercoms? This noise is like a crackling . It is intermittent and can be annoying. Any help greatly appreciated

This noise is more like a chip bag being crushed and is intermittent. It is more like a clicking than a static noise. It is definitely in the intercom system as it isn't there when I turn off the intercom

Is it possible that you have the volume turned up too high on the intercom and you are picking up extranious noise thru thr microphone? Mine makes exactly the sound you describe when I turn it up

I really do not have the intercom volume up very loud so I doubt that is the problem.

chickie, First question, have you added any electrically operated extras recently? If you have, then your problem could be with them. I would suggest removing the power from them and see if the noise goes away. If not, then turn off all the electrically driven components and see if you still have it. If it goes away, then one of them is causing the problem. Then turn them on one at a time and each time check to see if the noise comes back. If so, then that is your problem child and you can troubleshoot the electical conections for that device. If the clicking increases with engine RPM then perhaps a inline filter could solve the problem. Try and isolate the offending device.
If you bought the bike and it always had it then perhaps the PO installed something which could be causing it.
I installed a backoff flasher and I have a very slight clicking sound when I put on the breaks. I kind of like it because it lets me know the device is working so I am ok with that clicking. It does go away when I release the breaks.

I found it to have been in my helmet cords (upper or lower). Wiggle the cord a little and see if it makes a difference. If so, you may need to replace one of them.

Use some W/ D 40 on all of the connectors from the helmet.
Just ran into the same thing about 2 weeks ago.
I've been told with the W/D 40 it will also keep them water proofed.
It worked like a charm for me.

WD 40 is a lubricant and will waterproof it for a little while, but it is also causes corrosion. I would find a different product to use if that is what the problem is. CRC use to make some good electrical cleaning/sealing products.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have not added any new electrics for a long time now. I did find that if I turn off the wife's jntercom the nojse goes away so I will start wth her cord and work from there
