Sputtering in the rain

I got caught in a little rain for the first time since I got my Stalliion . I was not in the rain very long and it was not raining hard enough to put on rain gear but the roads were wet from a shower that moved thru before we got there. All of a sudden the bike started sputtering like it was running on two cylinders. I guess something in the ignition system got wet that wasnt suppose to. It sounded like a volkswagon engine running with no power. After we got out of the rain a couple miles later it cleared up and ran fine. Has anybody ever had this proplem ? Is there a solution for this ? Sooner or later I will have to ride long distances in the rain and I dont want to be drownded out along a road somewhere.

Saturday afternoon on the way back home from the rally, we hit rain... Heavy rain and the Stallion performed just great! We got wet but it did not affect the Stallion at all. :10:

Glad to hear about the rain not effecting your bike. This weekend my a/c compressor also went ka-blooie it smelled like burning brake shoes. Since my stallion is a 2009 although it had ony 2100 miles when I got it I guess I will have to pay for the repairs out of pocket. Its more than 3 years old and out of warrenty. But I knew that when I bought it. It is going in the shop Wed. It now has 6,000 miles on it. Did I read somewhere that they overfilled the compressors using 7 oz of oil resulting in excessive pressure in the system that could freeze up the compressor with metal shavings and burn out the clutches? Ok Im done crying now.

Might want to try replacing the spark plug wires. I've had bikes in the past that would have rain problem due to shorting when wet spark plug wires.

You hit the nail on the head bikerbozo I started looking deep into the engine and saw a mouses nest . I pulled out a nest that was bigger than my fist and also a dead mouse. Then found where the little rascal chewed the one plug wire. Fortunatly thats all that was chewed. I took a Picture but I havent figured how to post them yet. Thanks for the responses.

alot of the times, just a light coat of WD-40 will do the trick people alway think of wd40 as a light oil but , the WD stands for is water displacement

Those darn mice get me every spring in my lawn tractor. It was better when I still had an outside cat.

Hope I don't cause you to worry too much here.. but take a good look at the wiring near the nest, and any likely path the mouse/mice may have taken. I can't begin to count the number of issues I've had to trace, and fix with wiring courtesy of a pesky mouse.. Something about the wire they love.. I'd also recommend doing an online search for a few "household" tips to keep them away from your vehicle while it's stored too!

MOTH BALLS! Cheap and really work. Mice hate the smell.

YUP. What he said. We have a garden 3/4 around the house. Snakes love it in there. So I do the Moth ball things. Mice and Snakes hate it ! I friend of mine puts a 5 gal bucket in the garage with a small amount of Anti freeze in the bottom. Then drills two holes near the top. Then puts a small wood rod thru the it. The mice climb up the bucket get on the wood rod. As they climb out on it. it rolls and they fall in the bucket & can't get out. He has 2 Classic cars in the garage and NO mice damage. Got to have enough coolant in the bottom so the little suckers drown ... He's been doing that for over 10 yrs now. Worked for me also when I had my Chevelle :)
