I have a 1994 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Hugger. I am considering the Frankenstein trike kit for it. I have heard different opinions from people stating that the 883 cannot handle a trike kit. However, the Frankenstein kit is tailored for specific bikes. I also have had people state the 883 can handle a trike kit. What is some of your input on this?

My son triked a HD 883 with a DFT kit and it performed wonderful. I think you have to realize that it is an 883 and not a 1500+ when you ride it.
The 883 is one of the fastest Harley's out there. ThumbUp

Thanks for the quick reply. You just supported what i already thought. I am going to spend the 5500 on the trike kit. The only thing i do not like is their kit exhaust does not have heat shields to help hide the inevitable bluing that comes down the road. So i am going with a Bassani kit from Jpcycles

The Frankenstein kit is great. You can use most short exhaust systems like Vance & Hines or Bassani that have full coverage heat shields to hide the blueing. I have V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 on my softail.

Oh and BTW, there are plenty of 883 trikes out there. The Frankenstein kit is pretty lite so power should feel almost like stock. All Harleys have good torque #s and that's what counts getting the trike moving.

I converted a 883 with a Roadsmith kit and the dealer recommended bumping it up to 1200 which I did. The Frankenstein may be a lighter kit and an 883 may do ok with it.

Hi there, I triked out my wifes 1200 sportster with a frankenstein kit and it works perfect. The kit is light and doesnt increase the weight of the bike very much. A friend of ours just did a 883 and it works good. My wifes cost around $7000, completely done. It has vances and hinds short shots on it. It was also raked out at the same time. It was painted the same color and pinstriped to match at the same time. I put a quick attach box on it to hold her gear. This was also painted to match bike and has a quick attach bracket so she can remove it if she wishes to. She loves her bike. The 883 with a frankenstein kit in it will work just fine for you. Thanks, Krazy "I"
