Speed Bumps

Hi all,
I have the trike bug again. I sold my gl1800 with Lehman and thought I would stick to two wheels. I rode a 2009 gl1800 with a Hannigan kit a couple of weeks ago and WOW was it smooth! And now my question(you knew I'd have one)-It seems one of the ride advantages of the Hannigan is the low center of gravity.
Does that mean it could scrape on speed bumps, pot holes etc.?
Wife and I often ride to out of the way places(this summer was Newfoundland and Labrador)and I don't want to worry too much about leaving pieces all over the road:) Can you fine Hannigan owners give me your thoughts?

Hello Deadeye! Glad you want to trike again. I have the 09 Royal Star Venture Hannigan. You are right; it does ride very smooth. I don't know about the GW; but the only thing I experience is coming down a steep driveway. The hitch scrape the ground a little. I don't know if the body scrape without the hitch. I was told it may. It probably would scrape with a passenger. As far as speed bumps, my trike don't hit. That could due to I don't carry a passenger on a regular basis. Some speed bumps it may. I have hit some terrible speed bumps, and with the hitch it didn't hit. Have not hit any pot holes yet. When I lived in NYC I owned GW 1500 2 wheeler. Anybody who knows NYC, it's the capital of the world when it comes to pot holes. The Goldwing use to hit pot holes, and it felt like it was going to fall a part; therefore, I believe a Hannigan trike would probably scrap on bad pot holes. You'll probably get your answer from a GW trike owner. Good luck with the trike if you purchase the GW Hannigan.

We have an 09 RSV/Hannigan, and I agree with Bernie that there are times when our hitch scrapes the ground. This has happened 2 up on huge speed bumps, huge potholes, going off the shoulder of a steeply crowned road, etc. It's just the underside of the threaded ball that scrapes, nothing else. Learned to slow down when negotiating these obstacles. Just returned from a group ride in the WV mountains. Rode one up and all out on the rough twisties without ever scraping.

Thanks for the input folks. I played tennis for a couple of hours today and my knees feel like I took a beating!! I'm pretty sure that gl1800 Hannigan is in my very near future. Wife and I also rode a gl1800 csc kit and liked everything except the noisey exaust. I understand csc has their own exaust but I wonder if there is any way to reduce it to the level of the stock exaust?

We ride a 1800 Goldwing/Hannigan and have over 78000 miles on it. The only time it scrapes is on a driveway with a steep incline and that is just the trailer hitch. Good luck on your purchase whatever it may be. Charley

I have a 2000 Goldwing/Hannigan converted in 2010. Ihave found that I scrape on speed bumps, The clearance is 41/2" on mine you must have more on the 08.
