Short riding season now

Many of us are still in the end of winter, eager to hit the road again. Up here in Canada the season is short enough, but mine has been shortened considerably. On Mar 15th I suffered a massive heart attack. I was flown 500 miles to a big hospital for immediate open heart surgery. I got home 2 days ago and am now going through the long slow recovery. Everything is going fine, but no triking for a minimum of 3 months. But it sure feels good to be alive.

Three months, piece of cake on waiting. As for the recovery, take your time, listen to your doctor and follow his/her instructions. PT is very important when you are ready. If they give you a diet to follow, follow it, and don't cheat!

Then you will be back in the saddle with everything behind you and a full life to look forward to.

I've been thru that recovery myself. Don't try to rush it, listen to the doctors. The biggest thing is not to break that breastbone that is wired back together and needs time to heal. You'll be back on the road before you know it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I just did about the same amount of time getting over "major league" back surgery. The worst part for me was staying indoors during the winter and watching TV - which automatically includes snacking. Put on 10 lbs without even trying - bummer! :gah:

Take care of yourself, get well quick - and hold back on the snacks. :laugh:

Keep in mind that there will be riding again in the future and that is what your focus on rehab will accomplish. Take care and recover well, then you can ride again and still tell the kids you are older than the internet..............

Oh, I am. Having a firehall with paramedics only a few blocks from home saved my life. Any longer and I wouldn't be here. Nothing at all matters now except making the most of the rest of my life.

Shortly before my heart attack, our daughter was diagnosed with the same thing, along with another disease I can't think of at the moment. Today I find out that my younger sister has liver cancer and has 2 -3 weeks to live. Will it ever end?

Well, today was a good day. My sister is still alive, but close to the end.

This morning I insured my trike and took it for a couple runs 20 miles and back up the highway. Felt awesome to finally get some wind in my hair. Chest still hurts so gotta take it easy for a while. No long trips yet, but it's coming.

Oh yah, doctor said it was ok!

This week I discovered I can finally ride my trike without any ill effects. It was painful before, and especially for 3 or 4 days after. Only got about 600 miles on it so far this summer, most of it in the last few weeks.

I will be returning to work at the end of August, hopefully totally pain free. The last few months have seen a lot of doom and gloom. Feeling so much better physically now my mental state has improved immensely too. I have a much better outlook on life now and really looking forward to getting back to a ''new" normal soon.

I hope to retire next year, then Look Out TriGlide, you're really gonna get some exercise!!

RETIRE is the magic word. I've been retired 4 years now and there isn't a single day that I don't appreciate not having to be up at a certain time or at work at a certain time. Hell, I don't have to do anything if I don't want to. You'll appreciate the TG even more when you can ride it every day if you want.

great news you caught it in time, and i hope your feeling better each day... As you get better, im sure the urge to ride will get stronger too.
3 months isnt that long in the big scheme of things, but waiting makes time drag a bit. we will look forward to hearing your back on 3 again soon enough.

Way back on Apr. 18 I posted in this thread that my younger sister (58) was given 2-3 weeks to live. She fought long and hard but lost her battle to cancer several hours ago. Sad day in this household today. Her pain and suffering has ended but mine hasn't.

Our condolences to you and your Family from New Hampshire. I am sure she is in a better place without worries or pain, may her soul rest in peace.
