quick question about converting to alternator

I just ordered a new chrome 55 volt EMPI alternator kit for my trike. I've never pulled a generator before so I've got a question. Is this install going to be easier and quicker in the long run just to pull the motor cage and drop the entire engine? I'm old and fat and the body covers the entire engine so I'm looking for the easiest overall route.

It is all but impossible to remove without removing the shroud. The fan in the shroud is about 10" and comes out with the gen/alt. I would think lifting the body would be easier, but that is your call. To try to get it off without removing the shroud, you can unbolt the carb, manifolds, and generator stand, and remove the gen stand and all. You still have to loosen the shroud, but it is possible.

We'll it's done. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I removed the luggage box from the rear of the body and cut an acess hole and it went pretty quick. I installed an EMPI 55 amp alternator. It has a slight whine to it when you rev it a bit. Not much, just a touch. Is that normal?
