Been riding for over 50 years and never had a radio, now with my 2016 triglide I have one. How important is the updates since I really don't travel and need the GPS, I just listen to radio, need the advice of the experts here to determine if I want to do updates or not since I just listen to radio and that is all I need. From what I have heard and read the harley dealer can do the update for you, I'm not that much of a tech person so not sure I could do it, but willing to give it a try I guess, I know I would have to buy a flash drive of at least 8 gig.

Ok, waiting for the experts here for replies, like I said I just listen to radio, don't need the GPS, the bluetooth thing or the siri thing since I don't have a iphone, I don't even know how to do bluetooth.

You and I are similar except I don't listen to the radio but do use GPS. My phone is a flip phone.

I tried to do the latest download and had problems. Called my daughter to help and it was just a matter of some other info on the flash drive causing a problem. Once that was deleted it went pretty well following instructions. If you have problems, call a youngster. They have already forgotten more than some of us will ever know about tech stuff.

i'm an old fart with a flip phone also. i had my son install the update on a usb drive , then i installed it on the bike. installing it into the radio is easy,i didn't understand all this unzipping files and crap. the dealer will do the radio update for free if you like.

I thought I was the only one that doesn't have an IPhone - what a bunch of rubes we are. I don't even listen to the radio, just my home made mp3 SD cards (that I copied from my CD's - - which I copied from my cassettes which I copied from my 45 rpm records) of all my very favorite tunes.

I do use my GPS on long trips because the boss will only let me talk a week at a time. So I can't afford to get lost or take a detour. Once I retire and have any money left, I will go get lost. :)

I also use it extensively when I do the H-D ABC's of Touring contest. Saves a tremendous amount of time.

Thanks guys, with 558 views, guess nobody cares about updates, guess I will not either, just listen to radio and go, when it quits then I guess I will worry then. I realize most viewing may not have a 2014 or newer which I understand.

When it cost to update the GPS, I just left it alone - never even noticed any difference. Then I got free lifetime updates(Garmin) so I'll update once in a while.....when I think about it.

After all, back in the day, I use to use paper maps anywhere from 1 year to 5 years old and never got lost.

Modern electronics are subject to "bugs" in the software and a lot of times, the updates are to fix those very problems. Therefore, I update any software on items I own whether it be a cell phone, laptop, Boom Box, etc. whenever those updates come out. In most cases it is relatively easy to do but the Boom Box on our rides is a little trickier, but not impossible. Buy and inexpensive flash drive and download the update from the HD site and follow directions......saves me a 15 mile ride to the nearest dealer. ThumbUp

Trampas,

I did an upgrade within the last month or so. Mine was NOT for the road maps. That would have cost me $150. Right now I have different needs, but maybe in the future. As for the upgrades that I did perform, it was easy, once I figured out what I was doing wrong. Through the help of this forum I will add! I figured that any changes in roads/streets would be minimal for me. And if I get too lost, I can just go back the same way I came...... That feature is inherent to the BOOM system.

FWIW .... I download the CVO Infotainment Software updates and rename the file after extraction to be the same name as the non-CVO update file. It loads just fine and I get the CVO splash screen at start-up. Fun to watch techs face when they start it up. "Hey .... you got a CVO TriGlide????"

Why YES I do!

Always have the previous version on hand to revert back when updating. I only update when I see a new feature added that I want. Otherwise if it ain't broke ... don't try to fix it.
