Progressive 444 rear shocks upside down

I originally set my 444's at 3 turns for the wife and my weight - wife +/- 128 lbs - Me +/- 165 lbs per a member from this forum. This setting worked great for both solo and two-up, however, anticipating a little luggage load for a trip we were scheduled to take, I increased the pre-load by 1/2 turn and someone in the forum requested I post my finding/impressions regarding the 1/2 turn increase.

We ultimately cancelled our scheduled trip due to the wife going to England with a girlfriend so cannot report if the 1/2 turn worked for the anticipated luggage, however, I can say that the 1/2 increase turn was too aggressive for our standard (no luggage load) riding and I returned the setting to the original 3 turns down for pre-load. I can say that it was a noticeable change in the "too much pre-load" direction for our total combined weights.

Sorry I can't remember who requested I post my findings, but I hope who ever it was sees/reads this post!!

Thank you

It wasn't me but I'm considering making the switch myself. When I need to get repaired it will not be air shocks again. :cxtv: ride safely fearless

The 444s come in regular and heavy duty .... We use heavy duty on the trike .... correct?

Bob, it really depends on the wt. you anticipate - i.e. trike/rider/passenger/and any luggage. I would call Progressive directly and discuss your application with them directly. When I installed mine, I used the Standard 444's (at that time they did not offer nor recommend my application - upside down on a TriGlide). I went with the Standard because my wife and I weigh a combined wt. of about 300 #'s.

However, Progressive now offers TriGlide specific 444's that are 13 1/2", which is 1/2" longer than the ones I have. They increased the length to help raise the back end up and provide a better ride. I have the DK lift kit on mine so I am about the same as if I would have purchase the ones currently available and NOT installed the lift kit.

They are too expensive for me to change to the new ones now, and I am happy with the application I currently have.

Good luck with whatever you decide, but I highly encourage you to talk directly with Progressive prior to your purchase even if you purchase them elsewhere.

Roger
