I am changing the stock 2-1-2 pipes for V&H true duals ... the Harley service manager said going to the true duals will not result in any loss of power or milage. Has anyone gone from the stock 2-1-2 pipes to true duals or have any thoughts on this?

I don't know about the V&H system, but when I put a set of Rhinehart true duals on my 02 Roadking (TC 88) along with a power commander I had what felt like a huge power gain. Never checked the mileage though.

Mileage aside, that wasn't a very big limb the service manager climbed out on! It is a given that you won't "lose" any power. The real question is, will you gain any.

The answer is "probably", but as Ed pointed out, you should add PC or similar hardware to enable you to tune the fuel mixture to the increased breathing the true duals provide.

It wasn't mentioned, but if you haven't already, it is equally important to increase the engine's ability to breathe on the other end as well. A free-flowing airbox is a must.

If you want increase the out-flow (the true duals), you must first put more in by increasing the in-flow (and vice-versa).

It is a certainty that the new airbox/pipes combination will give you a noticable increase in both torque and power. The addition of the PC would just multiply that.

Good luck!

Good Points Dave; I did forget to mention that I had a Kuryakyn Pro-Series Hypercharger on that setup too. The ham can air cleaners that Harley puts on most of their bikes is the first thing that comes off in my garage LOL

Most of the bikes I've seen on a dyno with true duals show a shift of the torque to the right which isn't always a good thing for heavy trikes unless you change your gearing to compensate for it. A few year back I messed with a set of V&H dresser duals and the old style Screamin eagle mufflers. The bike lost on the bottom end but pulled better on the top, I could feel the loss of the low end torque no to mention they were loud. I put about 1,000 miles on this setup before I went back to the factory head pipe. If I was looking to improve on the exhaust on a 09 and up I'd look at the Fullsac X pipe, Fuelmoto Jackpot head pipe or the Vance and Hines power duals.
