About 3 years ago I got a letter from a company named American Research Bureau. They claimed someone died and left me money, but wouldn't tell me who that person was. Naturally I was skeptical. All they wanted me to do was sign a paper giving them permission to go to court on my behalf.
Long story, short: after much inverstigation I eventually signed. Turns out ARB is a company in Salt Lake City that investigates court house records. It took them about 2-2 1/2 years to wind this thing thru the courts, but they kept us informed all the way. I DID have a distant cousin that died with a questionable will. They got a 1/3 of what I got, but a few months ago we got a check large enough to pay off the house and pay cash for a few other large ticket items.
Only reason I mention this, with the scams going around, not every body that contacts you is a potential scammer! Never thought it would happen to me.
