about a month ago I tore my wife's trike apart to have it painted for her for Christmas. the painter used the color code off the frame to get paint and couldn't get it to match.so he took the trunk lid in and they used a machine to color match paint and it came up with a different formula. now I know the paint is about 8 yrs. old but he stall cant get it to come out the correct color. the paint is called candy wineberry red. I know someone painted it before because it was painted when it was triked. its about to drive me and him bonkers :xzqxz: he even had a different painter try to help. the candy will be a red color for three or four coats , then when he applies the next coat of candy it will turn purple. and of course she only wants it to be the wineberry. so if anyone might know what's going on any help would be great.

P.S.

the company that built the trike is out of business.

Hello what type off bike are you trying to match ? & what are you trying to match, gas tank & fenders ? I just repainted the body on my gl 1800 & the code on the bike was wrong , we use sikens auto base plus they have a good amount of motorcycle colors which a lot of paint manufacters do not , send me the year make & model & I will look up & see if I can find a code or color .

trying to paint the whole bike. went to color rite web site and came up with the same code as on bike. he used pittsburg paint. and at almost @200$ a quart it getting expensive in a hurry. Wineberry is a tri-coat color metallic base with candy then clear.

i agree with Retired Army rider . but as a retired painter (cars) too many coats are being applied to your trike. try just two, then clear (2) i know it would be a lot of work, but painting the whole bike would be the answer. of course, not something you want to hear.

What BRAND OF MOTORCYCLE HD, HONDA ? What is the paint code ?

A little history about candy colors. When it first came out base coat was mixed with clear coat to produce a transparent paint that could be applied over a solid gold or silver. This process was extremely susceptible to fading due to exposure to the sun. After 8 years it will be almost impossible to match. Don't know it that helps you. Good luck with the endeavor and post a pic of the finished product, ride safe.

2006 Honda areo
What we do to try & match paint is we have spray out cards there about 4" x 6" get 5 or so of them spray them with a sealer coat a little lighter than your base coat spray them all ,then spray them with your base coat give 1 of them 1 coat the next one 2 coats & so on ,do the same with your pearl coat ,then clear coat them & see what matches the best . you may have tint the base & the pearl .honda colors are a bitch to match

road dog that's what he's trying to do. he's done about 10 different swatches and still no match. yes im having the whole trike painted for her.

So contact these people. When Honda had a factory here for their motorcycles these are the people who made the paint. I would call or email them your problem and what you want to do and give them year make and model.
Its good that you are repainting the whole bike as you will never be able to match the sun faded color.
