New to Trike Talk from Texas

I am so happy to have found this site! I am new to biking, having only ridden on the back of my husbands Harley for the past year or so, and have a new (to me) 1979 VW trike! I, absolutely love it and I am so anxious to learn to ride it and be confident on it. I'm doing fine with shifting (accept for a couple of wheelies) but I am having trouble with the hand throttle. I want to convert it to a foot throttle so it will feel more familiar to me and I think I would be rolling down the highway with confidence then. :Trike1:

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking machine! So your not used to the hand throttle..give it a few rides to get the feel for it. You may find you won't want to change anything. Either way, all the best.

Welcome Jugirl. Nice looking trike. While I've been riding 2&3 wheeled Harleys for years, I just got a 1970 VW trike recently. Just getting ready for 1st hour long ride in morning. One piece of advice previous owner told me was...if you don't want to do a wheelie, start off in 2nd gear. Haven't done one yet. Waiting to practice handling more.

Welcome from Southern Indiana Jugirl! My first experience with a hand throttle was interesting. Didn't twist it all that much and the bad boy took off! Wasn't expecting it, but I can see why someone would enjoy the hand throttle over a pedal throttle. Who knows, leave it on for a couple of weeks and you may learn you'd rather have it over the foot pedal.
