I reluctantly sold my Tri Glide; loved the bike, loved the HD community, but couldn’t handle burning my leg anymore!

Now I’ve got the bug to get back into biking and am hoping that the Gold Wing GL1800 will provide a much cooler ride. A compounding factor is, most of my riding is in Western Arizona, South/Eastern California and Southern Nevada where summer desert temps routinely get up to 110*++.

From what I’ve been reading on this forum, it sounds like the GL1800 puts out a little right leg warming, but it doesn’t sound like it is anywhere close to the hellacious Tri Glide heat I experienced….or at least I hope not!

I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2018 GL1800 with a CSC Encore conversion. I’ve looked at all of the conversion manufactures and can find good and bad in all, but for the most part, the CSC reviews are positive and I like the stylish looks and love the huge trunk.

I have already passed the biggest hurdle, I got the wife’s approval; now all I have to do is convince myself that I won’t be hating my decision come summer time.

Any honest feedback (pro or con) from you desert riders would be greatly appreciated!

Jim

Hello and :welcome: to Trike Talk, glad to have U with us. :clapping:

The 2018 Goldwings have been redesigned from the earlier GL1800s. A lot has changed.

Welcome to the forum from Western Pennsylvania pull the trigger and enjoy your ride. I changed a few things on my Triglide and the heat is no longer a issue for us good luck with the Wing.... Travel safe Fred

Hello Jim

welcome to trike talk from east Texas. I think you will like the goldwing, mine is not that hot while moving it will be hotter while stopped. what get me in temps. upper 90s and up is the heat coming from the asphalt & concrete, its like being in a Oven. right and left side.

Welcome to the forum...Know all about riding in heat and won't have another air cooled bike/trike...Water cooled is so much better in my humble opinion. Each to his own though.

Hey Jim! Another WELCOME TO TRIKETALK!

Can’t speak for the 2018 Wing but I have never experienced a lot of heat emanating onto me from my 2008 GL1800. As earlier said.... the ambient temp + the standstill-at-a-stoplight-temp coming from the concrete and lack of air movement is a heat stroke waiting to happen in Texas summers. I have the Baker Air Wings and Trike Wings which help to direct air onto or away from me when rolling.

Best of luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide...we like to hear “the rest of the story”!

2018 GL1800 Conversion

"Biggest hurdle.....Wife's approval..." That statement is so true; congrats!

Good luck on your decision. Remember a 2018 model will qualify for Replacement Coverage with American Modern. Even though you aren't the original owner, we can lock in MSRP for as long as you own the bike (No Depreciation). We are licensed in Arizona and would love to send you a coverage comparison to review.
