Need input for part placement

This morning went to replace my Timing Cover with a Baron's V4 cover. When I popped the Yamaha cover off, a spacer of some sorts flew off with the cover.

The spacer is flat on one side and has a small lip on one side on the inner whole. It I didn't see HOW it was in there to start with and couldn't determine it by looking at the old cover. It seams to fit either way but I'm sure it's supposed to go one way only.

Can someone tell me the proper orientation of this piece? Ironic that it is the timing cover since time is critical as I leave for a trip on the trike in 48hrs.....

Thanks for any input!!

www.venturerider.org is the place to get a answer. Also give them a picture to refer to.

Been there and also looked up the maintenance manual. the manual shows the part being flat so I'm assuming that is because the "lip" is on the other side facing towards the bike. Guess I will find out for sure in the morning when I go to fill it up for the trip...:AGGHH:
