Mirror stays breaking off..

I have a 2008 1800 with Lehman trike. I have had the right mirror break completely off of the stay (metal frame) right on the end of it. I think there was a defect in the metal after a couple of years of shaking and bouncing up and down on the rough roads. I had to put a new stay in it the other day. I'm wondering if any body else has had that problem with theirs breaking off.

I've owned two GL1800s and never even heard of this until now. My '01 had 68 K plus on it when I traded and my '06 now is coming up on 109 K. Even with the vibration issue I just cured (Thank You MotorTrike) there is no evidence of metal fatigue. Don't have an answer for why you have had such luck.

I think it was a bad welding job from the factory. Where the mirror is bolted on to the mounting pad, right where it is welded to the round frame, it started cracking there and eventually the whole mount pad and mirror came loose.

It's as good a guess as any Wally. As we all know -- nothing is infallible. Still, I'll be inspecting that area closer the next time I'm in there....

Thanks for the info. :xszpv:

Never happened to me on 2 or 3 Wheel Gold Wing Versions..."but"...it has happened on my 2008 Black Gold Wing since it was Triked. I owned it as a 2-Wheeler with no mirror issues. The New Owner had it Triked and it was in the Honda Shop for this same repair about 2 months ago..... ThumbUp
