BEWARE we purchased enough flooring to do 1/2 the job and returned the following weekend to get enough to finish the job only to find they were out of stock and that it was no longer available. They were able to locate enough to do it from a store in Indiana (we are in Michigan) but they will not ship it to this store we have to drive (100 plus miles) to get it !!!
We own a business and proably do an average of 10-15000 a year with them , because of their unwillingness to satisfy this complaint we will no longer use Menards 68d5e4

Try to call their home office in Wisconsin and tell them about your experience. We had a poor experience at Home Depot and called the home office and they bent over backword to help us. I am sure that Menards big shots would not be happy to hear that you were treated that way.
:gah:

Nice, here I have a choice, Menards in one direction or Home Depot in the other. So it just depends on convenience. Rarely it's price or quality, but at times availability. I don't blame you if you are a loyal customer and get treated like that, but then again NOBODY should get treated like that. Menards just got some free advertising.

That´s a common problem with any big box store. No assurance that they will have matching lot numbers in stock. Sorry that you have an issue.

Why in gods name did you only buy 1/2 the amount of flooring you needed?? Gross miscalculation or ran out of money?

Oahe, is completely right. I have done many floors and other projects and if you don't get ALL the product at the same time, you run the risk of not being able to match the product. Batches are different from one to the other.
And it doesn't need to be a big box store either. A little mom&pop store will have the same problem.

I see nothing wrong with what Menards did. At least they tried to find some for you.
Where you willing to pay the cost to transport it from Indiana? Did they give you a reason for not shipping it???

I always buy a little more then I need and if I don't need it at the time, I have some for repairs latter on.

No Menards where we live, we have Lowe's, Home Depot, Sutherlands and Meeks. As a former Minnesota resident I miss Menards. Miss FleetFarm too, but thats a different story.
When I was helping Mom with her place we had the same kind of scenerio, out of stock in the Twin Cities area, discontinued product, etc. But they found some in Wisconsin and did have it shipped to thier store. As trikeleader said, try the home office. It might just be a case of a store manager or department manager not wanting to go through the "hassle" to provide good customer service.

I don't blame you Herb..but, I would call the HQ and put a complaint.

I deal wityh Home Depot and Lowes and they bend over backwards to help find solutions. I had a kitchen sink that showed cracks around the drain it was installed 5 years ago and they replaced no hassles...

Our Lowe's , were I work , actually went to a lady's house ripped up the tile they put on the floor 3 weeks earlier because she now hatted the color, and re did it in a color she liked better no charge. Do not bad mouth all Big Box stores because of one bad apple.

A hundred miles isn't far, I've driven farther than that just to eat, of course in Texas it is a long ways to anywhere though.

I'll go with John on Lowe's. By the time me and the missus actually agreed on floor design, it was gone from stock. They tracked down part number and got it shipped from another location. I ordered extra also. No shipping charges for me either.

One thing I have learned about big box stores is that items out of stock at a local store may be available on the chain's website. I feel no guilt checking out something at the local store and then finding and purchasing it from the corporate website. This is especially true of closeouts.

Got to agree I have 6 boxes sitting in garage ,,,to much ,, better to have to much than not enough ,,that can always happen in flooring.

Did they find the flooring in Mishawaka or Elkart In? I deal with Menards on a daily basis. I also go to Lowe's and Home Depot. You can't find everything at just one store. You should always buy alittle more than what you need. It's too late for that now. I would drive the 100mi. so you can finish the job. Just watch what you're doing next time. I had a similar deal with a tile store. Bought enough hardwood flooring to do what had to be done. Later we decided to do the rest of the place but they went out of business. We ended up going to Lumber Liquidaters and got a better quality but didn't match the old. So you never know. Jim

We went to Lowes because they had osb board we needed when building our house, and it was on sale. Went in, told them how much we wanted....they wouldn't sell it to us. Said there was no way to ensure that we (my husband, myself, and our young son) weren't actually a competitor coming in to buy all their product so they would have nothing to sell to customers. Even if that made sense, we were not even close to buying all their stock. They even admitted that they'd sell that quantity if we had a contractors license....while also admitting they market to do-it-yourself'ers. Store manager came out and verified....regional/territory guy called us to verify....headquarters said it made sense to them. Still baffles me. No, lowes doesn't get much of our business.

My two cents on Menards: Ordered 4 garage doors on April 6th this year. Said they would be in in 2 weeks. 4/6/2013 was last day of sale with 11% rebate. Sent all rebate info in on time. Stopped in and talked to another sales person who reviewed my order. Found that everything was ordered "ala-carte", should have been ordered as a "package". Young man saved me $1230.00! Bought door openers and other stuff for project! Stay with me, this gets a little long! Stopped in for more lumber on another project, was in the outside lumber area. Asked where the "special order" doors were stored. Pointed it out too me. This is now about two months after the purchase. (didn't need the doors immediatly) Saw all of my doors on the shelves. Went inside, asked if my doors were in,looked on the computer, "nope" was the reply. Back track to the rebate: called the rebate company, (it's administered by an outside company). Because they canceled my order and re-ordered it, I wasn't entitled to the rebate! $458.00!!! Ok, talk to store manager. Sends me back to millwork manager, she says no problem, we'll get you your rebate. Also let her know my doors have been in for a month and a half! She wasn't happy! Go back up to store manager to get final approval, comes up with a different figure $235.00! Showed him that they had my money on 4-6-13. Showed my receipts for a whole lot more than my original purchase price, fold in my waiting for the doors for almost two months. He ended up giving me $597.00 in rebates! I guess I was pleased. There book keeping is a little sloppy but, for me, they made things right! Just my two cents.

As a Home Depot department supervisor, customer service is ALL about relationships and communication. Those of you that know me know that that is what I am all about. Establish a TRUSTING relationship with your home improvement store and you will get positive results!

Another thought. What if they did ship it up to you and you got it home and guess what? it was a different batch from yours and it didn't match. Now, would you be happy? or would you be pissed?
The way I see it you would be pissed with Menards no matter what they did. For them it was a lose lose situation.

I'll say it again - you should have bought enough for the whole job in the first place -especially for something that will be seen every day. JMHO
