Lil piece of Trim

Going Topless

I got the FLHXXX trunk rack today, and man this thing is super BEEFY. It is not tubing, it is solid bar stock and weighs over 12 pounds. It cost the guy almost $40 to ship it.

I have not removed the top box yet. but the bolt holes and side to side spacing appear to line up. But there is a slight hic-up. The studs that hold the 2015 top box on are 1/4-20 thread, and the bolts that hold the rack on are slightly bigger at 5/16-18 thread. I think I can solve this difference by drilling the holes in the trunk top to fit the larger 5/16" bolts, and then finding and making spacer shims (as exampled in the last pic) to go around the top box studs so the top box will be centered in the larger holes.

A friend of mine suggested that even as clever as this light mount trim might be, the lightly polished aluminum does not really flow with the rest of the bike because everything is either BLACK, CHROME or a Black Contrast Cut. So I took it off and painted the bar gloss black and then countersunk the holes again to give it a 'contrast cut' look.

I like this stealthy look much better

That looks even better!!!

Unbelievably, we are still working on ours. It is going to be a bit different, but it will be black, with the LED frenched in, speed holes too, but not contrast cut.

:Agree: Thunder, I like to clean under my pack and I think this would drive me crazy that I could not clean under the tour pack. But it does look cool!!

I am not necessarily a clean freak, but being able to clean under the new light bar was a concern. So I made sure there was enough room for a cleaning stick to fit between the light bar and the trunk. It is just a flat piece of panel that is 3/16" thick by 2" wide x 16" long and a clean sock. It allows me to clean under the top box.

I was a brick tender for about ten years in my younger years, and then I worked in the parts departments of several Toyota dealerships for about 20 years. I am not sure where my often out of the box thinking came from, but it seems to work for me....at least some of the time ;)

After going down many different paths on our project (including trying an entirely new, from scratch, Tour-Pak route) we are now producing our Tri-Glide Tour-Pak Filler w/ Run-Brake-Turn LED Lights.

I have been running it on my TG for about 10k miles and it is very bright! It should be with 70 Dual Intensity LED's. :D

I've received a lot of great comments on it, and I can tell folks see me better! :)

Here's a LINK to it. (it's on special introductory pricing right now)

Kevin, Is there a modification to fit a 2011 Tri? Thanks DJ

PS: The wife really liked this new lighting addition but she suggested putting it on our new M8 latter this year. I hate it when she is right. Thanks DJ

We have not tried it on a pre-14. We know that the pre-14's use a different TP rack, but it might still fit.

If someone with a pre-14 wants to give it a test fit, send me an email at Kevin@DKCustomProducts.com

Sounds like you have a new Trike in your future! :)
