Lil piece of Trim

The area below the Tour-Pak and between the mounting rails kind of bugs me. It looks rather unfinished IMO.

So I made a little piece of Trim out of 1"x1"x1/8" angle aluminum, and drilled and countersunk a row of decorative holes in it. It is not finished, polished or mounted yet, but so far I think it spruces up the big
black hole under the top box, or at least does the job of hiding the rails.

I also ordered an Air Wing rack light and am going to try to incorporate it into this trim or maybe just mount it on its own.

What do ya think?

I used 1/4" car chrome molding and did the same thing you did....:)

Cool, sounds like an easy solution. Got any pictures?

So far this has just been an exercise to see what it might look like. I could mount it to the top of the trunk as in the first pics above, or...to the underside of the Tour-Pak as in this last pic. Once I get the Air Wing rack light and see how the LED's are spaced and where the mounting holes are I will evaluate. I may have to make a new trim bar and then decide where and how best to mount it.

Looking good. We're working on a lightbar to go there...will double as a trim to hide that "dead space".

I thought I would try an Air Wing light (for the Tri-Glide) because it looks fairly thin and it comes with a harness to plug into the trike wiring so it works as another tail light AND a forth Brake Light. Not that we need MORE lights, we already have more light on the back end than most cars do, LOL And it looks like I could easily mount the light either to the underside of the Tour-Pak, the top of the trunk or whatever home made trim bar that I end up with. We will see once I get the light kit.

No I have not seen one in person. But I am hoping that I can use some spacers on either end to mount the light directly to either box or to some sort of configuration of angle aluminum that is then mounted to one of the boxes. I won't know what 'could' be don until I......see the light.

I love angle aluminum :pepper: It is easy to cut, easy to drill and easy to shape. I have used various widths and configurations over the years to make many different brackets and trim for several scooter and small trailer builds. And with a little elbow grease it polishes up real nice.

So I have been itching to find a spot to add some of my personal holy touch to the Tri-Glide. And IF I can incorporate a functioning light into the mix, so much the better.

I might have to borrow your idea (possibly without the lightening holes, I'll mount LED...probably wait to see what DK rolls out), fantastic idea!!

Feel free to run with it and do your own thing. That is why I share :D I will post updates when I get the light.

And I am looking forward to seeing what DK comes out with too.

I got the Air Wing rack light yesterday morning, and spend the rest of the day making a new light bar.

Next I will remove the Tour-Pak and mount the light bar to the underside. More pics to follow.....

OK, I got the top box off, and the light bar mounted to the box. Now I just have to put the top box back on and plug everything in. The last picture shows where the bolts and nuts ended up on the inside of the top box pan.

Just for the halibut, and before I re installed the top box, I put the seat back on just to see what she looks like with no top box. Not too bad! Last pic is is a bootylicious wide glide shot.

Now if Harley only made a rack that could mount into the six holes that hold the top box on.

Where did you route the wiring ?
Was the wiring on the light long enough ?
Looks really nice.

I routed the wires along the inside of the top box bracket, you can see the black wire with cover in the second pic of post #15. The kit comes with some little metal stick on wire clips to keep the wire from hanging down. Then the plug end comes out just before the end of the seat where all of the other wires are. And yes there was more than enough wire provided, I cut off over 2 feet.

I got the top box put back on and everything works :D

Looks really nice.

Thanks. Two days of cutting, drilling, filing, sanding and polishing has paid off. I think she look pretty nice too :D

One last side shot. I put the light bar about 2" to the rears of the fugly top box mounting rails. But the light bar is wider than the rails, so it does a good job of hiding them. .

Harley does make a rack and sissy bar for the the H-D Trike FLHXXX. Here are the part number for the rack and sissy bar: Rack PN 83954-10A, Sissy Bar PN 54144-10. These parts are also in the 2014 H-D catalog, page 419. I believe your air wig light might also work on this rack.

Yep, looks just like my 2010 FLHXXX - LOVE IT!!
In fact I've bought a tour pak and easily switch back\forth
as the trips dictate.

WOW, ask and ye shall receive, Thanks. I don't think that rack is in my 2015 catalog. But it sure would work to fill the holes and trim the top of the lower box off if I wanted to run without the top box, old Servi-car style.

Rack

Your correct - rack and required mounting bracket are only in the older HD catalogs -
I have cats. and part numbers if anybody
needs them.......also all holes match up as
I stated so swapping out is easy.

I had looked at removing my tour pac back in 2010 while I was staying close to home, install the tour pac when going on trips, but that hasn't happened, still think about off and on.

After reading your post I went to to Harley's site and sure enough the rack was there, and as I remember it was $299. but the sissy bar # was no longer active. Now, less than a week later the rack is no longer active or available on their site either. I guess I missed it by 'that' much.

In anticipation of being able to go topless whenever I wanted I went ahead and got and installed a 440 lb electric hoist to make the job of lifting the top-box off and putting it back on a bit easier. Now.....I have to hope I can find a FLHXXX rack somewhere other than from Harley.

Nice setup, that's what I need to, my back is getting any better.
You should find the parts on eBay and possibly crags list also. When Harley came out with the FLHXXX, they also had chrome trim pieces that would install over the 6 holes. At the time I had ordered the electrical quick connects and installed them to the wires the tour pac, the only thing I haven't figured out is a quick connect for taking the tour pac off and on, this thinking about it.
