I have a '96 GL1500 with Motor Trike conversion and want to become untethered from the intercom system. We would like something that allows us to communicate between us and use our cellphones which have separate numbers. Listening to the radio and mp3 player would be a plus but not really necessary. Thanks for your help.

Gloria had a set of Air Rider, and I had a J&M intercom built into my helmet. We "cut the cord" when Gloria got her new trike, and we now often ride separately. WE got a set of Sena 20S bluetooth intercoms. They connect to the phone by bluetooth so the phone is voice controlled (if your phone is capable of voice commands) to play music, send and receive texts and read them to me when the arrive, make and receive phone calls, and play music from the phone memory or internet if connected, all by voice commands. It can also connect as an intercom to up to eight other Bluetooth units even if they are not Sena products. riders can talk to all the intercoms on the network or choose which ones to talk to. There are a few different Sena intercoms to check out on the Sena website. Just search "Sena"

A bit more on the Bluetooth intercoms, no matter what brand you choose.
Our Sena 20S has a built in FM radio, but the antenna is the cord connecting the base unit to the right speaker. I routed it under the padding so it goes over my head, but the reception isn't the best unless you have a very strong signal. I am considering getting 2 adapters to be able to listen to the Goldwing AM/FM radio, weather bands and the aux input if I wish.

There are adapters that plug into the GW, or pretty much any other brand, headset cord to make it a 3.5mm plug.

This one is from Aerostich Warehouse - http://www.aerostich.com/intercom-system-adapter.html

That would feed the radio signal from the built in GW system to a Bluetooth transmitter:

They are available at amazon, eBay and other electronics sites.

The bike intercom to 3.5mm adapters are usually around $20 - $25, and the Bluetooth transmitters run about the same price and up.

This transmitter/adapter set up should work with any Bluetooth intercom system. It won't interfere with communication, as the intercom is #1 priority on all the units I checked out before we got the Sena's.

Don't want no stinkin intercom-- point to mouth= hungry, point to fuel tank = need fuel, point to crotch= gota pee, helmet to helmet butt= napping, riding 1 up,
PRICELESS 👍👍

Plus 1 on 1 up! When I had the 2 wheeler my wife never wanted to go but now that I have the trike she always wants to go!:cxtv:

+1 on the Sena.
We use the Sena SMH-10s for intercom and we're each also paired to our respective phones.
We can listen to our own music on our separate phones at our own selected volume levels.
We also have XM on the Garmin GPS and can pair to it as well. All without a stinkin' cord.
We wouldn't go back to the corded system at all. IF anything, we'd upgrade to the new Sena 20's, but the 10s are working so good for us, that it won't happen for a good, long while.

Well, after reading all the posts in this thread, and viewing a few videos, I have ordered a dual set of SMH-10s. They look to be a pretty simple install for this pretty simple mind. Thanks for all your input.
