I am in the process of having my Goldwing made into a trike. I called my current insurance carrier, Allstate, I they told me they do not insure trikes. Can anyone suggest an insurance company?

</div>Hymmm I have State Farm too and the bikes insured as a 2010 Goldwing complete with a rider for the Motor Trike kit at full current replacement value.<br />
Not as an accessory....

I have AARP/Formost. $235 a year for good coverage.
A deer decided he wanted to be my fender ornament, $5500 later I only paid the deductible.

Of course, cost depends on location and other factors.

Look at older threads <img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="ThumbUp" class="inlineimg" /> As I remember (from the old threads) Progressive, GEICO, and Foremost were generally the easiest to insure, trike-wise. State Farm seemed to be state-specific when it would, or would not, insure trikes. I don't remember if Allstate was OK or not.<br />

Have ALLstate, local agent have all in local bike club insured.

After much wailing and knashing of teeth while getting quotes for both of our trikes, we went with Dairyland as the most reasonable for us up here in the desert.

Note: most of the companies I contacted used the cost/value of the trike kit as part of the "accessories/optional equipment." My biggest concern was getting the agents to anwers to a couple of simple questions...If some unfortunate accident was to occur, what is the insurance value/coverage? Is there sufficient coverage to replace with a similar, not new, equally equiped unit?

When we had Her Purpleness, a 1995 GL1500 MotorTrike, we had Progressive, and they were very good with us when we had a claim. (If you want to know more, check this thread: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/general-discussion/8720.htm )

One thing I learned through the process is that most insurance companies insure the bike as it came from the factory, everything else is an accessory. When Progressive totaled the rig what they gave us for the motorcycle portion was smaller than I expected, but it was priced as not having a rear wheel, fender, saddlebags or drivetrain. The accessory coverage made up for that ws lost on the bike portion. The adjuster went over every little thing, even down to how much the pinstriping and Kuryakyn grips cost. didn't take long to max out on accessories.
When we got the new trike I picked a slow day and went to our favorite shop. The parts manager and I went over the trike and went through the catalogs for prices of all the accessories and the installation cost, then figured in the trike kit, installation, paint and options. We have about 3/4 the value of the 2004 GL1800 Champion trike as "accessories", and our insurance pays full value for them up to the accessory coverage we have.

Some times the rep we speak with when we call an insurance company don't know what we are really asking. What we are insuring is a motorcycle with additional accessory coverage. That is how Progressive handles it and I think others do also. A trike kit is considered an accessory by most companies. I'll bet if you call back and explain it that way the rep would know how better to respond.

Thanks everyone. I ended up going to State Farm and got a great deal on trike insurance.

Again, thanks to all of the great advice.

I now have State Farm and due to price increases i'm changing to Allstate. State Farm has no towing coverage and Allstate is cheaper...One year premium is $324.80

I'm presently with Nationwide.. no games already know what my payout would be on a total etc... very happy used the road service once and it was a great experience

</div>What is your premium if I may ask. I'm thinking about going with State Farm

Did have Allstate, when I triked my Kawasaki vv1700, Allstate would insure, but wanted to charge me more than DOUBLE the rate per year when they covered the bike as a 2 wheeler.. Agent suggested I go to Progressive, who I have delt with in the past, so I did.

I had planned to package all my insurance with Allstate, then this happened for the trike....I also learned that in California, Allstate does NOT insure homes or travel trailers...they farm it all out to someone else - what good is that?

I have a 2002 Wing with a Lehman back end. Paid 20K for the trike last year. Insured it with State Farm who I have been with for 30 years. Policy is $377 a year. When I got the paper policy it only said 2002 Honda Gold Wing. So I called to inquire and make sure they know it was a trike due to that conversion being worth a lot more than a plain wing. The agent told me to take a lot of pictures which I already did. <br />
<br />
I asked again after that agent retired and the new agent took over. He sent my request to the underwriter and I never heard back. I asked the next visit and he told me they hadnt heard anything so dont worry.

Not very comforting since I like to see things in print so they dont have Insurer amnesia if there's a claim. ;-) But I have kept a good record of emails and conversations.
