Has anyone done their own install. I have worked on everything from motorcycles to heavy equipment and have all the tools. Can you save any money doing your own work? I am new to the trike thought. Have been riding for 40 years and am thinking I need to go to a trike for my last leg of the journey.

Roadsmith and DFT do sell direct to individuals. I heard somewhere that Champion had stopped selling direct but a phone call to them will answer that for sure.

I installed my 2015 Roadsmith kit myself. Like you I was born with a wrench in my hand so it was really a pretty easy thing to do. Of course I've wrenched GL1800 since they first came out and that helps some also. Having a service manual is almost a must.

I can't speak for any other kit but the Roadsmith HTS1800 install manual is very good. I'm sure that is part of the reason I had such good outcome.. Would do it again in a heartbeat. :xszpv::xszpv:

Hi Wreckman,
A lot of wrenchers have done their own conversions. Make a short list of the body styles and features you like, then contact those fabricators to see if they will sell to you direct. It's also possible (but unlikely) that you could get a dealer to order the kit and arrange delivery to you for installation.

VW trikers build conversions all of the time. Take a look at their sub-forums just for the fun of it.

BTW, you posted your question on a Honda board. Your profile shows you ride a Harley. Honda bikes are equipped with driveshafts. You will need a different interface to accommodate the H-D belt drive. Lehman has been making Harley trike kits for years and years. You might try contacting them. Good luck.

I did my own install using a Champion kit that I bought through a local dealer. I'm using CSC rake kit that the dealer liked because of more rake. When the kit was ready for paint, Champion called me and I took a saddlebag up for paint matching and when the kit was ready to ship, Champion called me and I went up to the factory and picked it up.

Hadn't considered that you could use just about anybody's rake kit. Makes a lot of sense and gives you a few more options.

Also was surprised to know that Champion will match just about any paint colors. I had to give Roadsmith the Honda code for the match to my Goldwing.

Good post.
