Hello all. I run a trike conversion business in the UK which has been around over 20 years. over that time we have sent a few of our kits to the USA but as a percentage of how many inquires we get from the US it is small and I wondered if it is because of the prices and cost of shipping import etc or because the kits themselves (unless they are jigged to fit a specific bike like the Valkyrie) require some welding work to fit the tubes to the differential / suspension cage and that is seen as a problem.

This is not a sales pitch I really am trying to understand the needs of the DIY trike building folks in the USA better as we fit conversions to many different bikes from Kawasaki ZZRs, Triumph Rockets and Yamaha Virago's to name but 3. I hava seen may fly-on-the wall type programmes on customisation of bikes and cars based in the US, so I know you have a culture of customisation fabrication etc which has sort of led me to think its's all about the price which is clearly important?

I would appreciate any constructive advice about this. All our kits are independent rear suspension and are shaft, belt or chain drive.

Moderators if you do not allow this post please let me know how I can ask the questions I have without breaking rules? Cheers. Steve

Hello & welcome to Trike Talk. :)
I don't see anything wrong with your post, I always wondered how trikes are being built in other parts of the world, I have seen some of the custom trikes built in Japan.

Most trike kits in the states are made for popular bikes Goldwings and touring Harleys are the main sellers. There is a niche market for a conversion to turn a bike into a trike where no kits are available. The cost is probably the biggest factor with shipping cost & import fee/tax and then it is also a parts issue. The dollar to Pound conversion is an issue for folks, as small regional banks may not be able to send an international wire transfer.

It never hurts to ask and I'm sure more answers may follow.

Welcome to TrikeTalk Steve! I took a look at your site and was impressed by the amount of makes and models that can be triked. Very cool!
