Heads up

Got the Trike out Saturday and met the friend that I plan to do the Alaska trip in June for a little planning and a ride up the River Road for lunch. It must have been 55+ degrees and it felt great to be on the Trike.

I really notice and like the difference in the way the Trike handles and find it much smoother than my 2011.

Anyway after our ride I returned home and pulled into my driveway. My driveway has a gentle slope so I popped the bike in to neutral and set the brake to get the garage door opener out of the tour pack. I had opened the tour pack and punched the button to open the garage door. I shut the tour pack and as I was walking behind the bike to get back on and pull it into the garage I heard the brake release and the bike started rolling backwards. As I was right next to the left side of the Trike I stomped the parking brake and stopped the Trike.

I have no idea of how firmly I had set the parking brake but think the vibration from the engine caused it to release. Is that possible? I know that I never plan on letting the engine run setting on a slope again relying on the Parking brake to hold it. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I've read of one other person whose 2014 parking brake "supposedly" released itself. His suffered damages. I always park my trike in gear and only use the parking brake as an added security. Some use a velcro strap on the front brake handle as an additional brake set.

When I am off any of my motorcycles they are off! Matters not if it is my trike or my 2 wheeler on a kick stand.

I don't trust the park brake on Trikes, If they loosen or pop off' Even ON a slight incline a Trike will roll.. As far as the garage opener I keep mine in my windshield bag so I don't have to get off the Trike...

I'm sure I heard the brake release but I am not sure how firmly I had set it. Never did that on the 2011 as the parking brake was a PIA. I will never do that again on the 2015 but I really believe the vibration of the running engine caused it to release. Seems like that should not happen. I will be looking for a windshield bag for the opener. Do you guys know of one that works well on the new configuration?

Try this - http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/3-pocket-fairing-pouch#tabs

When I bought my 2013 and had around 2000 miles on it I was doing the same, left it running with the parking brake on, went to open the garage door, slight incline, it started rolling backwards, I got to it before it hit anything, the brake handle was still on, just a wimpy parking brake system,
I quit using it at that time, I just shut it off and leave it in 1st.
You can not trust it.

Wouldn't that block the fairing vent?

No they don't. While they may reduce the intended effectiveness of the vent they are mounted to clear the vent and shaped on the bottom to direct the air the same as the vent. You can reach under them and open and close the vent and can tell the difference when they are open or closed. All in all they work out pretty well and I would be lost without them.

Hide it anywhere on the bike. Wire in a remote push button switch. The parking brake on the Freewheeler is got to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen installed on any motorcycle. That would be the first to go if I was to by one.
