Need advice, trike is locked up in reverse gear

James I'm just guessing but I expect the reverse activation button/switch is stuck in the on mode. If this is the case some guys have had luck flooding that area inside with WD-40 or spray silicone (I prefer the silicone). You'll need the kind of can with the small tube so you can direct as much as possible into the inner workings.

The actual switch is back in there a ways so it's hit or miss getting some or anything into the switch. As a last ditch effort you may end up pulling that right assembly apart and deactivating the switch. It's a real bugger to do so I hope squirting enough lube in there takes care of the issue.

Make sure you cover up your plastic real good.

Mine was sticking and I used the silicone solution as well. Takes some working it in to get it to finally release. Just push the crap out of the button repeatedly until it releases. It will definitely take more than one or two pushes......

Besides the switch,try rocking the trike forward and backward. Sometimes this will help.

When I had a sticky switch I cleaned it up with electrical contact cleaner from Radio Shack. I followed the cleaner up with graphite spray lube. Worked very well and lasted a long time.
I was told that both WD-40 and most silicone sprays are oil based and collect dirt. The contact cleaner washes away contaminates and the grahpite lubricates without oil, so the swtiches stay clean and lubed longer.

If youre after a switch cleaner Radio Shack sells an electrical cleaner and lubricant for use with plastic switches. I wouldnt recommend using graphite in any of the 1800s switches.

You sure do not want to use graphite! Use either the silicone or preferably the contact leaner. And yes it will take many pushes...like 50 or 100 to free it up. The longer term solution is to actuate these push button switches each time you ride once they are freed.

Are the 1800 switches different than previous Wings, or did I get lucky I didn't mess up the switches on the 1500. Haven't had to do anything with the switches on the 1800, but it seems that a little preventative maintenance will keep them working well.

:Agree::Agree:........I use dry graphite any time I have a switch issue and have had a lot of switches in big trucks over the years .....and also PB Blaster instead of WD 40 since it's just for water displacement .

Graphite is an excellent electrical conductor and would defeat the purpose of the switch if worked into the contact area. I suggest a lube such that the contact cleaner contains and/or silicone be worked into the switch to free up the dried grease in the switch. I use graphic for many things such as locks but I do not use where electrical contacts exist.
