I am sure there has been lots of discussion on this, but I am unable to find any history of it.

I would like to have some suggestions on what I can do to keep my butt from getting very uncomfortable on long rides. Am I the only person with tired butt??!! It happens after an hour of riding usually, if I am alone, I stop for a bit.

I have a 2010 Goldwing and I am 6'3". I will soon be 70 years old and I refuse to admit that this has anything to do with it! Goldwing has been converted to a Motortrike.

I will welcome any advice, thanks.

We rode for several hundred miles just on the stock seats that came on our GW1800 CSC - comfortable, but not for the 'big trips' we like to take. We contacted B&G Seat Covers in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, en route to TrikeTalk Rally #3 last year. Those nice folks fitted our seats with padded velour covers, installed them for us, and even sewed on eagle patches for us. The seat covers keep us cool in summer and warm in winter, just with that small bit of padding and fabric. We've ridden in 100+ temps and 30- temps, and put over 20K miles on the trike, and haven't had tired butt once!!

Try seat covers! (We had previously tried gel seats but they get hard and butt hurts worse!)

Nothing beats a custom made seat built to your specs. They ask for your height, weight, inseam. And what is bothering you about your seat now. It costs $$$$, butt you get what you pay for. The best way to do this is to do a ride in for a more custom fit. Not always feasible. ;) Tom :GL1800:

I put the Ultimate Mid Rider along with the passenger backrest on my Trike.
We can ride for 600 miles in comfort now.

:wave4: We did the same and love it, but my BIL has the covers like Blondie Gal and loves them. You need to try some for yourself. Charley

Many have this problem. There are several custom seat manufacturers who aim to solve it. These guys are well regarded.

A cheaper solution that some find sufficient is a seat pad. Again, there are many, here are three that get good reviews.
You can get even cheaper ones at auto parts stores.
So there are many solutions. It's hard to recommend just one, everyone has their favorite. But many people find that a Russell seat makes a large improvement.

Mileage rode in a day is not the problem. It is the amount of time sitting in the seat that is.
I rode the Trail of Tears from Chattanooga To OK... The middle day I was n the saddle over 3 hours none stop and I was having some discomfort. I came home last night after doing 619 miles none stop with no issues.
I stopped every 150 miles for a slight brake. Left Tahlequah, Ok at 1:40 pm and got home at 10:42 pm
I am using a Kuryakyn seat made by Mustang.
I also like the Russell day long as a suggestion.
I have a 2 wheel and trike GL1800 so I can interchange the seats rather easy.

I hear your discomfort. I have an inverse "mass to ass ratio". What I found worked well was a different seat, I chose the Saddleman Road Sofa with gel inserts and backrest. But if I were to do it again I think I would go with a backrest and walmart gel seat cushion for the seating issue. You should add good highway pegs too! This gives you the ability to change position and stretch out. Also allows you to relieve the pressure on your butt. Floorbaords are a help also as you can move your feet around and postion them to take more pressure off the posterior. Each of these items is subject to a great deal of personal preference and finacial consideration. If money is no object then it's hard to beat a Russell Day Long saddle. I had the Great Day To Ride LD mod done on a different bike, it was well worth the money.

Best is if you can get to sit on different seats to try and get an idea of what will work for you. Your on a trike now so there is no issue with the height as far as putting your fett down. just my .02

Hi Bumlbe, After a lot of research, I found that a Utopia back rest ($175) and a sheep skin gel seat cushion ($120) worked for me and solved that problem of incongruency between my butt and the stock GW seat. The cost was reasonable so I did it. Now I can tell you it was the right thing to do for me. Interestingly, the sheep skin cushion was multi-layered with surgical gel and memory foam on each side of the gel and fitted for the GW. Good Luck.

Agree, back rest & gel/sheepskin pad work well for me.:wave4:
