Goldwing CB Installation

I have two questions for you knowledgeable trike folks: 1. What is the difference between a regular Goldwing CB and an Evolution CB and 2. Is there an instruction video on installing a CB to a 2006 GL1800? Thanks for any help.

Thank you tfdeputydawg. The price difference is the main reason I asked. Now you knew this was coming, "what is SWR"?

Standing Wave Ratio.

If you have a CB shop near you, they can perform this antenna tuning for you.

If not Sierra Electronics is a very good source for a SWR meter and the jumper cables that are required for a Gold Wing CB. Also you can ask BikeMP3 for these if you decide on the GL2way.

This is a delicate operation! Remove no more than 1/8" from the antenna at a time. It may take a while to get to the lowest ratio possible.

Many tune channel 19. I prefer to tune on the channel bikes use the most in my area, which is channel 1.

FYI, Bikes do not provide much of a ground plane for the antenna so, you will be able to receive signals from much further distances than you can reply to.

Some agree with the following, some don't! I always kneel beside the bike when checking the SWR, as your body can affect the reading. You want to be clear of buildings and trees when tuning also. Obviously the SWR will be affected by you and a passenger when sitting on the bike so, I like to tune with nothing near the antenna to get it as low as posible.

I know that price makes a big difference in your choice...but I have rode with many people that have the Honda OEM CB & those with The Evolution CB made by BikeMP3...and the Honda is 100% above the Bike MP3 CB radio...the Honda CB is clear when someone is talking...the other one is so loud that it is very hard to understand...

Honda cb

Buy the Honda CB and get an antennae from Sierra Electronics
Sierra offers combo ant. that handles AM/FM/CB all in one
Replaces the steel whip that is std. equip
No drilling into trunk

BTW--Sierra tunes their ant. for the Honda CB
I have had 2 on previous Wings and never a problem

Just my opinion--Others may vary

While it is true, there is a antenna available that is for AM/FM/CB, I do not agree it is as good as the single use CB antenna.
That type antenna contains a signal splitter. There is always some signal loss with that type antenna.
Also, although an antenna may be "tuned" to a radio, it is not going to be perfect on another radio! It may be very close but, fine tuning to the radio it's going to be used with is preferred.

Installation is a piece of cake on the CB. Drop it in and plug it in. Done deal.

You have a 2012, the OP has a 2006. There's a little more to it on an 06ThumbUp

Also, some require 3 filters, some don't! I'd try it without and if you find you need them, then buy and add
