I have made several post about tires and brakes and a few other things and thank everyone for the help. Now I want to ask about what kind of gas mileage they get. I have had several VW'S over the years. Seems like I got around 23 to 25 mileages per gallon. I haven't checked this trike yet but it seems like I am not doing well on mileage. I am pulling p265/50r16' on the rear which I know will hurt mileage. I was just wondering what everyone else was getting on their mileage. The motor has a slight stumble as soon as I shift gears but it runs fine other than that. Motor is a stock 1600 cc with dual webers. Valves dare right, timing is right and I am not sure how close the webers are as far as adjustment. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Starrider,

I am running dual 40 EMPI HPMX carbs with an Engle 110, 92mm pistons, high end 40mm x 35.5 mm heads and getting between 21 to 24 mpg.

2002 motor question

I would think I should be at least getting 21 or so but I don't believe I am. I going to check it on the next tank fill. I have read about the adjustment on the webers. They show the adjustment screws on each carb out one turn or less. I checked mine and on both carbs they are out 1 3/4 or or so. I don't know if the carbs are in sinc or not. Don't know if that would make a big difference in gas mileage. I ordered a gauge today to check that. I was running 87 octane and now I am using 91 octane. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks Thought that might help. Thye sy

Yea, the air fuel mixture screws that your referring to will depend on elevation mainly. I am at 6000 feet and mine are out about 1 3/4 turns as well.

And like you, I always try to run the 91 octane fuel. But yes, being a stock 1600cc motor you should be getting somewhere in the 20's. It flat could be the carbs being out of synch or just too much carburetion.

Its a VW they don't need but 85 octane gas and the higher the elevation the less octain you need.Run some BG 44 though it and clean up the carbom in system.

Gas mileage? ????
What is that??????
:Shrug::Shrug:

But on a serious note.
If I actually stay off the throttle for a little while I might get near to 20. But that is a guess as I have not ever stayed off the gas long enough to figure it.
