Didn't like keeping my garage door opener in my windshield bag. Decided I'd try something unique that I hadn't seen before.

I bought a Harley mileage reset button that's located left side of the inner fairing off eBay for $6.00. I soldered the button leads to the contact points in my opener.

Then i I drilled a hole in the right side of my fairing opposit the mileage button. Now my inner is balanced with the mileage button on the left and my garage opener on the right.

That's pretty cool. And it looks good like it came from the factory that way. I did about the same thing with my Road King. I removed the aux. switch under the handlebars and replaced it with a double pole momentary switch. I have a gate opener and a garage door opener. I flipped it one way to open the gate and the other way to open the garage door. I put the opener control in a plastic bag inside the headlamp nacelle. No one could tell it was there. Sold the Harley so now I have to figure out how to mount it on the Goldwing trike. I'm bound to have some extra buttons somewhere on this monster.:) I like your idea of mounting in the fairing and matching the other button.
