After I get below 1/2 a tank:xzqxz: of gas, my Needle on the fuel gauge starts bouncing around all the way to empty. Before 1/2, it is Fine. Could this be a short? bad gauge? bad Float? How can I find out.? I am no electrican. Would like to do the work myself if I can...

I've never had much faith in Harley's fuel gauges. I still reset the trip meter every fill-up... :xzqxz:

I'd have a look at the float, and make sure it is unencumbered with any wires, etc.

 Thats not so uncommon, Some harley's do and some don't, has been my experience.
ThumbUp When i get settled into a smoother ride without allot of shifting and acceleration it settles down and tells me truth.
:Shrug:Steep hills lie to me also, but i have made peace with one so fickle and she has never left me walking, she just want's to keep me guessing!:D

Fuel gauge, what is that. Just kidding, but I have never really relied on any of them on any type of recreational machine, motorcycle, snowmobile, 4 wheeler, ext. I figure out the allowable miles per tank and use the odometer to tell me when I should be filling. Never ran out after initial figuring out how many miles I can push it to then know to back off a good 15 miles from that just to be safe.
