Front tires

Let me say this. I'm going to convert my 2001 FLHRI to a Motor Trike. Been reading on this forum. I read some of you put a rear tire on the front. I would assume the rear tire has more meat then the front, and why the direction of the tread. I did not know there is a difference between a front and rear tire. Could you educate me on this matter.
