I own a 2015 freewheeler..
i have bought 3 different windshields still getting my head blown off..
i also own a 1997 bagger ..no issue.
i wanted to know if anyone has installed a fairing on a freewheeler and if it made a big difference with the wind

I ride a 2015 Freewheeler also. I am using a LRS 18” recurve shield, tank lift and fangs. I always wear a half helmet and have no buffeting at all. My Sundowner seat raised me a little, so with a stock seat 16” may be better, I don’t know. The JES Freewheeler fangs seem to be shorter than those for other models and I have only seen a 5° increase in temperature. Just my experience.

Made absolutely no difference on my '15 Free. Tried the tank wings and I'm now installing fork fangs to see if that helps. Good weather coming so I'll post after I get in a good ride.
thank you ..keep me posted..i havent heard of them i will look into it also

When your getting your head rattled put your arm across your chest. If that stops it the air is coming from underneath.
If I place my hand on my knee with fingers facing forward it stops the buffeting against my ears . More on right side than on my left. Funny thing is I don't get head buffeting just on my ears. Just put on fork fangs but haven't tried them out yet.

Just put a batwing on my 15 freewheeler but havent had a chance to even ride it thanks to the weather. I also put on an engine guard and lowers.

I have a reckless motorcycle fairing on my 2019 with a 8.5” klock werks. I get some wind on my chest but it’s definitely from coming up over the tank. Before I had my highway pegs I would rest my legs up on the crash bar and hug the tank with my legs and wind was gone. I have a tank lift and wind deflectors from DK customs I still need to install. Hoping that helps with the wind over the tank.

I was having my head ripped off on my Freewheeler. Changed to a Freedom Shield, not much change. Added the DK Customs cooling deflector wings. They helped some, maybe about 10 percent reduction in my opinion.

Then I started looking at them and wondered what would happen if they were larger? So, Ive been messing with the size and shape of these things for a while, and have gotten pretty close to optimal. Still tweaking size and angle. Winter got in the way of progress. The photos are of a prototype. The final product will most likely be smoked acrylic to match my windshield.

Not the prettiest look, but I decided lower fairings aint exactly pretty either, and Ive run them on a couple bikes. I would say these deflectors got rid of almost 90 percent of the buffeting. I posted about them on another forum, and a member who asked for the plans and made a set said he thought they made a big difference.

The thing is, The buffeting is mostly coming from below and/or up over the gas tank. As was stated above, If you cross your arm across your chest as your riding at speed, you can see how much blocking the updraft gets rid of the buffeting. And the post from Nels41 about putting his hand on his knee with his fingers extended, is the same principle.

The third photo is of another version, (the white ones) angled more forward.IMG_3053.jpgIMG_3052.jpg75115093436__12A6CB29-5C22-45D0-95CE-06B2097E2EA9.fullsizerender.JPGIMG_2265.jpeg

I am thinking the 8.5 inch windshield for mine although I have not actually rode it yet. I am sure the 5.5 that came with the fairing is too short. Hope to get some riding weather soon to test.

Yeah I’m 6’3” and reckless discounts the klock werks a little when you purchase your fairing. They offer the 6.5” and the 8.5”. So I went with the bigger one so I didn’t have to buy another

If I ever get a chance for another ride I will know a lot more on which direction I need to go. I bought this with the H/D detachable windshield and rode it twice and not very far so I really have no idea. I saw the pic of the black one with the batwing and I was sold ! Its always more money :)

I did get out for a short ride to fuel up the other day on my Freewheeler and the short windshield on the bat wing inst going to cut it . I have a problem with watering eyes and the wind doesnt help even with glasses so I had a stock H/D batwing windshield that I have installed but of course its raining again so no test rides ! I told the wife I dont want it to look like a geezer glide but I also want to ride and I need to be able to see ;) I have another spare windshield I may start cutting down to see how low I can actually go.
