First time thats happened....

Got off interstate and pulled into rest area to use rest room. Trike was parked with front slightly downhill facing a curb. Ground was wet from misting rain. Got ready to leave, put it in Reverse and it would not pull itself backwards! Friendly pedestrians gave me a push and then I was able to put it in road gear and go.
Told another trike owner about this and he says, yes, the Goldwings have a leveling system built in when they were two wheelers to keep them from rolling backwards and if I had only put it in Neutral and pushed back a little with my feet and then put it in Reverse it would have caught. (The reverse gear was
engaged but I was not moving). First I had heard of a leveling system.

Well it's true! ThumbUp I was talking about Bank angle sensor too!

bank angle sensor from an 02 Honda GL1800. It should fit several years of the GL1800. It also fits 04-08 VTX1800. It is in good working condition. The Honda part number is 35161-MCA-A21 which changed to part number 35160-MCH-003.

I thought they work on the side to side angle of the bike/trike... Me thinks there was another issue for you REV not engaging.

I've parked front end down many times and never had that happen.

Kind of defeats the need for a reverse gear, if you have to keep it level....

The reverse mechanism sometimes hangs and simply moving the machine a couple inches aligns things so the gears will mesh.

If you remove the right engine cover (the one removed to check oil level) and look toward the back of the engine you will see a spring assembly. Activate and deactivate the reverse and you'll see that assembly moving. That is the reverse mechanism at work. If you wash that down with silicone spray every once in a while you will have less problems. The two cables running to that mechanism are controlled by the reverse solenoid up front of the engine. There is a procedure in the service manual for checking/adjusting these cables.

It might be that your battery is getting tired. How old is it ?

My trike would back up my wheel ramps when I wanted to do some work underneath but one day it just couldn't make it up and would stall out about half way up.

I checked the battery because the reverse function works directly off of it and it was ready to give up the ghost.

I replaced the battery and it pulls like a tractor now.
