Can't help you with the Harley or 3M film, but if you ever replace it get someone to put on either Suntek or XPEL film on your trike.

My Harley film scuffed and I also tried 3M. I had XPEL Ultimate put on mine by my next door neighbor who installs this stuff for a living. Either of these films have self healing properties for scuffing or scratching. It's also much clearer than any other film that I've seen. He covered fenders from the pin stripe around to the inside edge and all other flat panels as well as the side covers.

Mine was usually scuffed by my wife getting on the trike, and now when scuffed in about 15 to 20 minutes in the sun and any signs of scuffing disappears. Check out the video. They use warm water to speed up the process for the video, but I assure you it works just like the video shows.

Do you have a feel for the retail cost to have Xpel installed on your trike?

Total cost so far was a few beers and some burgers on the grill. When I see him I'll try to get a feel for price of film. I'm sure the labor charged by various shops would depend on where you are having it installed. He doesn't normally do motorcycles... Lambos and such is his specialty.

I think that if price is a concern the SunTek film is a little cheaper and has similar self healing properties as the XPEL.

after buying the 3m stuff ,I read about the xpel ultimate . Looked it up on the net . 12" wide is about $11.00 per foot . I liked the video of the self heeling properties. Will get some next time I need to replace the 3m.

WoW !!! That is a GREAT deal. Have a family member in south Texas that does the same as your friend. Installs XPel film on VERY high end vehicles, but not motorcycles, especially trikes.

Like he says "too many sharp curves." Anyway, materials to do inner and outer fenders, tank sides, side covers and fairing, his cost, was between $180-$200. They have 2 different grades of product. This cost was for the most expensive. AND I was going to do the install, he wouldn't tackle it. One of the reasons is XPel has pre-cut templets for most cars but no motorcycles except a European model I've never heard of. He was going to have to measure and hand cut everything.

i went with SeeThroughBraz........easy install with great support Al and Meredith via telephone help.

I think my neighbor used 18" film on the fenders to wrap from outside pin stripe to the inside edge of the fenders. That is also wide enough to do the box flats in one piece as well as cover the side panels. I looked it up and it's it runs about $17.00 a foot for raw material. I mentioned that SunTek was a little cheaper and saw it ran around $13.00 per foot for 18" film.

After having my seat off this morning and seeing the passenger backrest buffing on the tour pack, I'm going to clean up the buff marks, wax it, buy some more beer and call him over and get the tour pack protected. :)

I tried the 3m protective sold by H-D.
It was a disaster!
Followed the directions and even bought the applicator, Scotchal 71607, $17.
The first problem was the film. A clear film on a clear backing.
Had to use a razor blade to seperate the two, stabbing at the cornors to find the seam.
Even used a table mounted magnifing glass. Oh yes, one of the smaller pieces the backing was off and it was stuck to another. Had to use the glass and a lot of solution to seperate. The film being so thin it would curl up and stick. Seperating was a challenge because of streching the film.
Once I had the two seperated(film, backing). I drenched the area with the shampoo solution to wash off any dust particals. Applied the film, lifted up half of the film to spray on the alcohol to activate the glue, repositioned and squeegeed the film.
Results, spects under the film!
I believe by lifting up the film no. of times causes the adhesive to ball, thus the spects.
Not much play time for repositioning.
My advice is to let a professional apply the film.
For Sale....Application Squeeqee!

I attempted to put the 3m stuff on this week end. on a scale of 1-10 I give it a-4 ! couldn't get the edges sealed with out a crimp in several places. looked like crap! got it off with out hurting anything but my wallet. My own fault for trying to do it myself and save a buck. Take it to some one who knows how to do it.

Had my 3M installed just before I picked the bike up. Service manager said they like to let the bike sit in the sun to warm the paint first. How important that is I have no idea. But like others have said, you can barely see it.

We got a sponsor on the forum,- see thru bras.
Al and Meredith are good folks, maybe you should look into their film product. The pieces are laser cut and removable. As soon as I get some decent weather I'm putting their film on my trike.ThumbUp
