What happens when the amount of repairs to your bike exceeds the Retail Value?

Who determines Retail Value?

I’ve noticed that MILEAGE is not a factor on Blue Book for motorcycles.

I just went through this. Totaled my 2014 TG. Repair was $35K State Farm gave me $24900.00 Forget Blue book, it's what the insurance company says it is. They're all different.

I was lucky - I found a 2014 TG with 786 miles for $24K Mine had 35K miles.

I am a little confused. (not hard to do) :)The title of your thread is Ext. Warr. which I assume you are talking about an extended warranty policy. Are you talking about collision damage from a wreck and your insurance company paying for it? If you are talking about collision damage, like Gary said your insurance company will set "their" price that they will pay. Of course you can always argue with them etc.

Are you talking about repairs to the drive train, engine etc. that an ESP extended warranty will pay for that were NOT caused from a collision? I don't think any ESP policy going to pay for any form of collision damage. Or, are you talking about your ESP paying for normal items that just occur from riding, engine repairs, drive train, radio, etc...... stuff that the extended warranty pays for?

I don't know how old your machine is, but it is hard to imagine enough repairs at one time to be more than the value of the bike. I guess that could happen if it was 6-7 years old at the time.

I was just referring to regular repairs NOT COLLISION.

Evidentely someone INPUT the incorrect data for my trike and

they did not want to pay for repairs as they totaled more than

the RETAIL VALUE of it.

Its been corrected now and Ext. Warr. is paying ($7500).

Trike is 2010, Extended Warr. expires Sept. 2019, repairs are starter motor,

clutch basket, transmission parts,+, mileage is 99 thou.

:)

Well that is working out good for you and I am no longer confused! :D

Glad you got it worked out. BTW $7,500 seems high for the work you mentioned but then again everything with H-D is high . . . and if ESP is paying then no worry.

But wondering when they (incorrectly) thought the repairs were more than the retail value of your trike what did they offer to do? I would think they should pay the fair market value (like an insurance company does when a vehicle is a total loss) and then cancel and refund the unused portion of the ESP. I don't think they could just say sorry no coverage and walk away.

Fortunately it never went that far- I have a good dealer that helped out tremendously..... good question..... will try to get an answer as I had the same thoughts!

Its appears, like insurance, it’s HOW repairs are WRITTEN UP.
