Oodle is full of these adds. Yes, people do answer them and the posters are mining for email addresses.

Nope, they are mining for money. I personally know of a guy who sent a cashiers check for $10,000 to buy a newer GL1800 trike off an ad like that. This was nine years ago back when the scams weren't as well known as they are today, but I'm sure there are still a few taking the bait.

Six months after I purchased my trike I found it for sale in one of theses ads. When I emailed to take a look at the bike in person I got no response from the poster. They steal pictures of real bike ads and use them in the fake ads. I find it hard to believe that anybody would really fall for theses things.

You're exactly right, greed is the big hook for the ones who get screwed. The guy that lost the $10K wound up buying a used GL1800 and had us trike it for him. We felt bad for him so we made him a close to cost deal and he said he would send us referrals in return. He was a retired firefighter and became a fixture at our shop, watching and helping us build his trike and doing whatever needed an extra hand.

Then one day about six months later he is all giddy and tells me he is opening his own trike shop 15 miles from our shop. We were just getting started good, but already had a very good business going and he smelled money and was clever enough to buy a kit at cost and let us train him.

Many times over my forty years of practicing law I told clients that if it was too good to be true, it probably was not true.

Bottom line is that we, as humans, are greedy by nature. Some of us learn there are no free lunches, others don't.

back when I was looking for a diesel truck I answered an add that had a 2110 truck for 15K they told me it was for real that I needed to just pay this shipper and the would do all the rest. I emailed back that I had cash and would go to were the truck was. they got back that it would be better to pay the shipper as it would same me the time of going there. I send an email back with I have 15,000 cash I will meet you there is noway I am going to give any one else my money. That was the last I heard from them LOL
