Confused about CAT's

I know this has been hashed over probley more then a few times but i guess seeing i am NOT mechanically inclined. i have a question. I have a 2011 triglide and wanted a lil more sound but not excessive so i bought a pair of V&H slipons.. in the process of putting them on now but with al this talk about replacing the Cat.. is just replacing the slipons going to harm the bike? make it run rougher? or make the gas mileage Decrease rather then increase like soemone told me it should increase abit with these V&H slipons. Again sorry if i am rehashing a subject.. also thanks for any help you can addd. steve

You should be able to just put on slip on mufflers with out making any changes to the ECM. If you were going to change the air cleaner, catalytic converter, and mufflers then you would need to make changes to the ECM either by a Harley stage 1 download or using a tuner.

You won't hurt anything just changing the mufflers, if you get an increase in gas mileage I don't think it will be a measureable one.

Any chance that a set of slipons and nothing else would cause any decrease at all in engine heat?

I put a set of Rush 1.75s on my 2011 FXDC and admittedly it could well be the power of suggestion but it seemed to help a little with the heat. No A/C or tuner, but after about 50 miles the onboard computer seemed to "learn" the pipes and it ran great-no popping or anything.

Anything is possible, especially if the mufflers flow better than what was on there.

I noticed once I changed out my mufflers the heat went up..Had to tweek my XIEDs a bit..I also have a high flow air cleaner that was on before I changed the mufflers..

On both of our trikes we changed the mufflers and intake before we took delivery. Both bikes were re-mapped by the dealer. Reinhardts on her scoot, Rush on mine. Both scoots run great, mid-30's mileage, and no long term problems. My Tri has nearly 30,000 miles, hers 10,000. I wear shorts in the summer and have no burn marks or heat problems, neither does my wife.

Don't know if this means anything, But the left [only] muffler on the Tri Glide has a restrictor cone in it to even out the back presser with the stock pipes.
I'm not sure if slipons have that?
