Clear coat issue

A couple of weeks after buying my new Freewheeler, the dealer installed the protective film kit. It was wrinkled on the edges of the fenders and they offered to redo it.

They called me little while ago to let me know there was an issue. While removing the protective film from the right rear fender, it peeled some of the clear coat off of the paint.

They are sending pictures to Harley to try and get the issue warrantied. I'm waiting to hear what the solution will be, but either way, it will be a while before I see my Freewheeler again. :(

Well, I heard back from the dealer. Harley will be sending them a new fender to put on. They want this one back so they can inspect what went wrong with the clear coat. It will all work out in the end, but I don't know how soon I'll get it back. I would expect that I won't have it back this year.

Luckily I still have my FJR1300 to ride.

The color is still in production, it’s a 2020 model.

Harley doesn’t want me to ride it. They want the fender in its current condition.

The first replacement fender took about 4 weeks.

Hope you don't have to remove any other film on bike because you might have the same problem. Some film manufacturers including 3M advise removing film could cause paint damage especially if not done properly. Glad to see HD is taking care of problem.

I’m glad that they’re taking care of it too.

I’m beginning to wonder if the protective film is worth the trouble.
