Classified For Sale Ads For TRIKES...I don't get it...Do YOU?

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/d/goldwing-trike/6550441873.html

What is up with 99% of the trike sellers on CL and other forums?

You see the ad...like the one above.

I ask myself every time, like this ad..."WHAT'S THE $14,500 BUYING ME???"

They have absolutely NO information on the trike kit/conversion itself!

A little of basically useless information, like new seat, most have the miles and almost ALL have a price.

SO...we have to GUESS at what kind of trike kit is on there, as well as what else is fitted? Like..........Who MADE the trike kit?

Does it have EZ Steer?

What year is the trike kit?

What are the miles onthe kit itself?

Who did the installation and when?

Is the kit solid axle or IRS?

Any lowers, electrical options?

I realize not ALL those questions may not be able to be answered.

but a lot of them should be listed

NONE of the above info is ever seen if so it is rare to see it listed

I got tired of having to ask 10 questions to every trike owner everytime I called! (Headbang)

You would THINK they'd provide as much information as possible to screen out the

uninterested buyers...as some want a specific BRAND, most want EZ Steer, etc etc

Believe it or not, I've had one or two that had no CLUE as to what brand of trike kit was actually ON the bike! All I got was "it's a nice one"

Is this just ME, or have others noticed this as well?

I'm assuming CL, Is Craigslist.....And if thats the case thats what you dealing with...

If someone doesn't list everything, They are hiding something, Or they are hopping someone will brake down and they will buy the trike...

Me' I Never bought or sold any thing on any of those lists....I like to deal with only reparable dealers or people......Just me, Trying to get the last dollar on a deal doesn't cut it with me, I know some do, and its a game to them...Just post [Hypothetically] that you just bought a Qt of oil for 10.99 and see how many post back you paid too much, I got the same at Walmart for 9.99....Nature of the beast i guess...

I see what you're saying Rhino, but upon further questioning some sellers, it didnt seem to me they were actually HIDING anything as much as just not taking the time to list all the information, almost like it didnt seem to matter as if a trike is a trike. We know this is definitely NOT so. A lot of reputable dealers are guilty of it as well, but having dealt with harley (and import) dealers for some 40 odd years I know any of them will state/omit whatever is necessary to get your butt in the showroom..that's how dealers work. The rest of the sellers still makes no sense to me

I'm sure SOME of them are trikes that belonged to a family member who has passed on and the family really and truly knows nothing about it except what they can see pasted on the vehicle as to model or info off of the title.

Others could be an owner who thought he might like a trike, and with NO research whatsoever on trikes, found a pretty one at a price he could afford, rode it, hated it, selling it.

I agree, those ads are frustrating.

You would be surprised how many think a trike is a trike. In all fairness unless someone has either been around them or finds a forum with alot of good info or spends a great deal of time researching trikes you really have no idea the differences.

I suppose that makes sense...as well as the other observation about people buying a trike

without researching or knowing what they are buying, then not liking it and now selling.

So where do they come up with these big price tags then? Going by what they paid for it?

So we got some people out there selling trikes who really didnt know what they bought OR any information on it other than what they paid for it who are now using only that as a barometer for it's worth?

And when questioned about details couldn't provide you with enough information for you to make an informed bid/offer if they had to

Probably so..........

Buyer Beware

Never Ever , communicate with a seller thru e-mail or texting :nonono:

Phone info is a must, then you at least have a 60/40 chance of it being real. Also a look see is a must. This forum has members in all states that could and would help you to make sure it’s real. If you descide to do the sight unseen deal, then your on your own .

Well, I'll post after I take possession and let you all know what my "sight unseen" buy turned out like.

After talking with seller a dozen times on phone (whose dad died and was selling for the family) over phone and getting multiple current videos and confirming THAT, talking to his dad's mechanic multiple times, checking out his and his family's facebook page etc etc I feel good about it. I did plenty of background work on this deal, he will have my check today, and send me the title in 2-3 days after the check clears. Admittedly I'll feel better once the clear title is in my hands but so far I feel pretty good about it.

This is a high dollar investment/purchase any way you look at it.

Potential trike buyers who can't or do not want to spend $19-$28000 on a more current trike that want an older "budget friendly" trike in the $9-$12K range with a big name quality kit on it do not have a lot of choices as these older trikes with a quality kit in this price range go QUICK.

I could have waited until I was back home and possibly spent several months driving here and there trying to find and buy the trike I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, (IF I could find one) and wasting the summer doing THAT instead of riding, but when this one came up I knew this was the deal I was looking for. I'd like to think I got lucky on this one, we'll see........

Tom...looks like you are satisfied with it all for now. How far away is the trike from you?

We actually bought my trike off of Craigs List. We called and spoke to the guy, went to his home - 4 hours from us - rode the trike, felt good about it all, gave him a personal check for a deposit and took a certified bank check for the remainder when we went back to pick it up 2 weeks later. Have been very satisfied with it.

Having said that....we put a nice, ground-loading, 2-bike trailer up for sale on CL and got so many spam replies that we took it down after 3 days - finally sold it to a neighbor. That’s the only attempt we’ve ever done to sell something on CL.

Let us know all about it when its a done deal and you have gotten some miles of smiles on it!

Trike's about 100 miles from me. I'll be picking it up when I get back. The boy said he'd put it in Dads's storage building which they are keeping until I get home. His son rode it from there to his house (20 miles) to clean the dust off it from sitting and it rode fine.

Cruise button is sticking he said that's about all that will need to be fixed (common on all 88-2000 wings)

He is 45 and rides a 2017 Ultra Classic so he knows a little about motorcycles. Said he's not ready for a trike and I believe him. When I was 45 a trike was the LAST thing I wanted

Tom! What a good looking trike! Looks like you did real well. I have read back through this whole thread, and unless I missed it, did not see what trike kit it is.

Craigs

As a previous poster said most people selling trikes on Craigs list don't have a clue as to what they have. Some are way over priced , and some are under priced. That being said I would never buy something on Craigslist unseen...way ,way to many scammers on there, but sometimes you can get a super deal if you have the patience.
