I have a question on a Cargo rack that will slip inside my hitch for the fellow members on here…

I have a BUSHTEC trailer hitch that I installed as I was transforming and modifying it while the tub was off.
(I knew at some point I may be pulling a trailer).

(Yes, the wife needs to start to pack MUCH lighter! Lol!)
But we want to start traveling more and that was the main reason for getting this Tri Glide.

Now… I’m still not ready for a trailer yet, …but right now I’m just wanting a smaller type of cargo rack to slip inside to the receiver.
(I do have a 1-1/4” to 2” adapter so either receiver size I’m able to use).

I understand my license plate will be covered and will make accommodations for that.
I prefer to keep it “within” the fenders as to not cover the taillights on the fenders if possible, plus keep it in proportion to the trike.

I found could a couple pics off the internet while doing my search that I still could not find what i was looking for and these pics may even be members on here.

I really don’t want to not break out my welder and make my own, but would prefer “pre-manufactured” for overall convenience and lightweight.

(Just big enough for an extra suitcase and/or cooler).

Any suggestions? Or recommendations?

I really like this idea and size looks to be what I’m looking for:

I’m sure in the future that I will get a trailer… of course will be color matched to the TG, but just wanting a cargo rack at this time.

Thanks in advance!

Once you go trailer you never go back lol. I worry about the weight hanging that far back, as compared to the tongue weight of a trailer. But to each their own, good luck with your extra storage. We like the trailer for picnic rides, throw some camping chairs in the trailer and cold cut sandwiches in the cooler and head out to a park and find a shady spot.

100% agreed and that overhang is indeed a concern, but there would probably only be about 20lbs at the most on it.
Just looking for something small and functional this year.

Next year I will most likely have a trailer as I’m just starting to research some right now.
It also seems that care needs to be taken on the wiring to the trailer, depending on how the brake and turn lights are set up?
(Again just in the beginning stages on that). 👍🏻👍🏻

Take a look at some Rivco options.

Also Packit-Rak is a popular hitch rack for motorcycles. Although it specifically mentions Goldwings, it list many variety of hitches in the description under hitch options.

Yes, I also saw those (pakitrak) and got side tracked and forgot to look more into it.

Thats what I’m looking for: something small for now & just big enough for a “little extra” before I graduate up to a trailer.

Thank you for the info & links!
Much appreciated!!!

If you get a wiring harness from Open Road Outfitters, Rivco, Kurakayn ect. They come complete plug and play with an isolator to prevent any issues to the bikes wiring or computer. Just need to get the trailer then order the harness, it will depend on whether the trailer is a 5 wire or 4 wire set up.

Thank you for the info, much appreciated and clarification.
I was hoping to do the wiring ahead of time, but this confirms that it depends on the trailer (wether I purchase new or buy a used one) will designate what type of wiring I need on the trike to accommodate the correct connections.
Again, great info!
Thank you!

I’ve never used this set up after my trip to Watkins Glen, I then built a trailer. I still have though. I was looking at it the other day

is that yours?
I pulled that pic off the “net” and had no idea.
Small world! lol!

Where did you get it?
That’s just the perfect size for a little “extra” luggage and small cooler before I get a trailer next year (or two).

Yep. It’s a Kuryakyn rack, I bolted the tool box to it. It’s big enough for 2 rain suits, bike cover and some. It was just enough for a 6 day trip from NC to Watkins Glen when I bought my first TG. See the 2 bolts on the rack, I moved the license plate to the rack for viz. just for that trip.

I’ll look into that as that’s just what I am looking for. Just big enough and basically a temporary rack to use until I get a trailer.
Thank you for the lead! 👍🏻

We’re leaving Wednesday for WV , it’s so much easier to pull a suitcase out of the trailer when you get to the hotel. Plus, room for shit we pick up along the way. 2 years ago on outer way back from Amish country, we fill that sucker up with corn on the cob 🌽 from Harrisburg PA. Lol

Very nice set up!!
I knew a trailer would be in my future. (Just when was the question). That’s the reason why I installed the trailer hitch when it was all apart, going in for the new paint job.

And right now a small rack, just like the one you have will be the perfect temporary fix until I get my trailer.
Personally, I’m fine… And not that I’m saying that my wife packs way too much shit… Well…
But yes, I knew a trailer in my future would be inevitable at some point.
For this year, that small rack will be perfect for now. Thanks for all the info and it looks like your trailer will look awesome when you get it done!

I have the Rivco 11 x 16 quick detach motorcycle rack that I use to carry a yeti soft cooler. Rack is on and off in minutes and meets my requirements. I also purchased a duplicate motorcycle license plate and mounted it on the front of the Rivco rack to remain compliant with state laws.

I would only use a trailer 3-4 times a year so if I invest in one it will be a Kompact Kamp Route 66 or Skyline. Very reasonable.

For what it’s worth, the Rocco is a lot nicer than the Kuryakyn rack
Thank you & all for helping narrow it down!
From your information, I found a third choice from a company called “show chrome” even though it’s black, not chrome.

I see differences in all & a couple of these ones are sold on Amazon. (Of course some negative feedback which is mainly a complaint on its small size).
(Of course dimensions are given …and I do own a tape measure, lol!)

A small little rack is just what I need! :)
…and again my appreciation to you guys for helping me find these.
I’ll be ordering one of them over this weekend.

Don't care much for trailers. Have a receiver on the back of my 06 GL1800 conversion and I found a plastic carrier mounted to a frame and has has a tongue and is intended for a trike hitch receiver. It can hold almost as much as a trailer. Only negative is that it blocks my license tag so I make a copy of my tag scanning in my printer and afix it to the box. Not sure about how legal but at least I tried. The box comes wired to hook up tail lights/turn signals so we don't get hit from the rear. The box is now buried under items in my garage shed and didn't feel like taking it out but it is a fine alternative to dragging a trailer which has the negative of no linked brakes so jackknifing is a possibility in a panic stop.
