Adjustable rake Trees?

I have a Valk trike. I only just bought it, pretty much. A while back this guy looked at the front end and reckoned I had an adjustable-rake triple clamp. Until then I had not realised the TC was anything but stock. Now I know it's a RoadSmith TC. Did RS make an adjustable rake clamp? Does such a beast exist? I can't see any adjustment on this and I emailed Roadsmith and they never replied; either thay think I am stupid and my question not worth answering (wrong attitkude), or they just do not care (wrong attitude).

Sorry about the snide remarks, but I reckon that in an enthusiast market, no answer is not a good policy.

I ask because I know that rake is great on the straight (ark ark), but more strain on the corners...if I could find an optimum......

Any help appreciated.

Nick

Most Roadsmith Kits use 5.5 or 6 deg rake, there is a Number on the frame under the rear of the trike. Get that number and call Taylor at Roadsmith 1-651-777- 7774 and he can look the number up and tell you what up have or maybe email you a copy... there is no such thing as adjustable rake / they are all set at a certain degree.. http://www.trikeshop.com/contact/

No Trike Kit is generally stock.... slow time at Roadsmith around the Holidays... so they aren't extra prompt the link I furnished is for email the phone will get you to the office ask for Taylor Young.... but have that number or it will be a wasted call...... know what you want info on as they are busy just not a big crew working during the winter..... Enjoy and learn about your Trike..... we're a good place you know that, but no attitudes needed.....

Roadsmith has excellent customer service, as good or better than any and they do read and respond to the posts here. I'm sure they will be along shortly to answer your question.

Hi Nick,

First of all congrats on the new trike! I hope it provides with you many miles of worry free enjoyment. To answer your question, there is no such thing as an adjustable rake kit, at least not now anyway . If your triple tree was provided from us at the time of order, then you have a 6 degree extended rake. On the Valkyrie models this is all we've ever used - at least for the last several years.

You can look at the top of the upper tree, and see if "Roadsmith" is engraved into the tree. If so, that's our rake kit.

As far as the no response, what email address were you using? Or, did you email from the website? I personally respond to 100% of the emails that come through web inquires, or to info@roadsmithtrikes.com usually within 24-48 hours at the most. In order to respond though, you need to put your exact and correct email address in the email contact field, otherwise we receive the message but don't have an address to respond to.

Going forward, I'd be happy to answer any questions (or get somebody smarter to answer the technical questions) for you in the future by phone at 800-331-0705 ext. 853, or by email at taylor@roadsmithtrikes.com. You can always post on here as well as we check things on TT pretty regularly.

Thanks for riding Roadsmith!

I don't understand your comment in the above quote at all. Rake affects the steering all the time and makes steering much easier, particularly in the turns.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Sorry. To clear up, I do not have a Roadsmith trike. It's a custom build in Australia that uses a Roadsmith rake kit. It does have Roadsmith stamped in the top clamp.

I can't remember what email I used. It was way back, like a month or two.

Anyway, the question is cleared up; it is not adjustable.

Uh-oh. Here we go. :D. As I understand it, more rake means more trail, means that cornering is harder to achieve, but the trike/bike will be steadier on the straight. I always refer back to a mountain bike (small trail) vs a road bike (more trail), because it's visceral. An MTB can flck the bars quicker and easier, a roadie is better for hands-off straight riding.

Sidecar and trike for a Harley, as you well know. Ive got an-original set that i pulled and put the pat Kennedys on that are way more adjustable. We shall see how it works out.

Those are adjustable for a 2 wheeler pulled all the way in, or pulled out for a sidecar or trike. If it aint got a raked front end in the neck or in the trees, its a matter of time when the handlebars get whipped outta your hands, and the ditch comes looking for ya. MO:D
