Been making an effort to nail down a deal on a 2024 trike.
Local dealer had one in a color that I wanted.
Negotiating a price they started out with the new 2025 price.
I told them flat out they needed to rethink that strategy.
I said the 24's didn't just increase in cost because new models are on the floor.
They have had the bike since mid year last.
No matter how I tried I could not get them to budge off their number.
I may wait for a nice used one to be available but I am not going to pay these prices just because corporate raised the price of the new models.
New pricing should not go retroactive.

I was there a year ago. Had a 2020 Ultra with 20k miles I tried to trade for a new trike. Was the same base price for a 23 or 24 and they had 5 to choose from. They offered me $18k for my bike and wouldn’t negotiate a penny, was take it or leave it.

On the floor, they had a used 2019 Ultra with 38k miles for $26k and a 2021 Ultra with 23k miles for $29k. I asked them what gives, you’re going to make $10k selling my bike?

I had just put a cam, catless header pipe, mufflers, air cleaner, tuner, and several other parts on mine. I was pretty PO’d at their offer and that’s when I decided to keep my bike and convert it.

There was no discounting and I couldn't understand that. Why they asked me what I would pay only to ignore the answer is a lousy negotiating tactic.Usually it is a stepping stone to getting the agreeable price. I am pretty disgusted with Harley at this point. I don't expect a dealer to give away last years model, but I do expect a discount.
Sales people seem oblivious to the fact that the price is the same for last year and this years models.

Smart move to keep yours and kit it out.

Go to another dealer!

Sadly this is not unique to “trading in” your Harley. This is industry standard for any “trade in” item. Guitars, cameras, cars, other brand bikes as well.

Harley has never really been big on negotiating because they usually don’t have to be. You will find discounted prices on bikes if it benefits the individual dealership. So many other items are also price protected (same price wherever you buy it) as well.

Harley doesn’t really want your bike. They want you to buy a new bike and if you are willing to accept their insulting offer then they will put it out front with the rest of the used bikes and sit on it until it sells. Sell your bike on your own for what you think is a fair price and you will do much better.

Back in the day I could negotiate a helmet, maybe a jacket … uh a tee shirt with the dealership name on it … those days are long gone 😕

Don’t know where you are located but here in SE Louisiana the dealers want to make deals…..Two La. Dealers closed their doors recently so business must not be booming.
In my pursuit in 2021 I shopped all over the Gulf Coast from Dallas to Houston then east all the way to ft Meyers Fl. Ended up 30 minutes away making a decent deal on a Snake Venom Triglide.

The 2025 trike prices are the same as the 24's; corporate didn't increase the price. So if the price has gone up, that's the dealership not corporate. There are some dealerships, few and far between, that post their prices on the bikes, don't exceed MSRP, and don't add on junk costs. If you can find a dealer like that - it's the place to buy from. I do agree with you; last year's model should not be priced the same as the new 2025's. I was in the dealership the other day. For fun, I was looking at a 2024 Heritage. The sales guy was very enthusiastic about the deal he would give me. He had to move the 24's and would cut the price by several thousand. He said he could get it down into the low 20's. - the MSRP on a 2024 Heritage is $22,499 - it's already priced in the low $20's! When I bought my 2024 RG3 last year, I drove over 30 miles to a dealer instead of buying from this dealership, which is very close to my house.

I've bought and traded more vehicles and farm equipment than I care to remember and have always negotiated a deal, even with John Deere. I refused to buy a Harley years ago because of their attitude when I went in their stores and instead rode Honda's and several Victory's. A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to try a Harley with the new M8 motor after selling my last Victory Vision I had. I lucked in to an opportunity with a really clean used 2020 Ultra with low miles at a decent price from Suburban Motors 250 miles away up in Wisconsin. I told them it was a cash outright deal with no trade and we negotiated back and forth a couple times in a text before going to pick it up. All of the other HD dealers around me though cop an attitude and I won't do business with them.

So you are riding a Harley and feel strongly enough about the brand to use it as your forum name (don’t know what that’s called) … cool 😎

Did you ever try to negotiate with Bose, or Taylor Guitars, or the parts dept at your dealership? If you need a part from Harley, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Wisconsin HD or Miami HD … same part same price no negotiating.

There’s way more non negotiable items in our lives every day than you think. I’m glad that we will still (and can still) get the stuff we want, right

On one of the Harley Forums lots of guys recently happy about "Only having to pay MSRP".
Seems like that is the new normal.

Just as bad is a dealer advertising a bike for sale that they don't even have. There was a dealer in Stuart FL that had a trike advertised on both their website and Cycle Trader that sold 6 months prior (A salesperson even admitted it when he suggested a trike that was 4 years older!) After doing some leg work I found out that the dealership was in violation of Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. I submitted a complaint to the FL Attorney General's Office that referred me to their Consumer Protection Division. I submitted the requisite online complaint form to them, there is a section with requested relief (e.g., money). Since I did not purchase anything and was not out any money, I was dubious what to put in that section. It also wasn't worth it to me to try to get a lawyer and personally sue since I wasn't out any money. I recommended they suspend their business license for 30 days and make a contribution to the State's Motorcycle Rider Training. Strange I did not hear further from the AG's Office and recommended relief did not happen, but the dealer website and Cycle Trader ad was updated within a week. I would not even buy a bag of chips from that dealership or their two associated dealerships!

Well if you break down MSRP, it reads Manufacturer SUGGESTED retail price. In my humble opinion, that means there should be the opportunity to negotiate an agreed upon price. There are always going to be places that feel a listed MSRP is gospel and come hell or high water, just refuse to go below that. And will actually try to get more than MSRP if they can. But with the dawn of the Internet, and if you don't mind traveling a bit, bargains are still there to be found. The key is to not be in a hurry and do as much research as you can of the various dealerships.

And just to add my 2 cents worth, playing pricing games to get you in the door is just as bad as listing a vehicle that was sold months earlier.

My experience in this was about 8 years ago when shopping for my Silverado. I came across an ad for a dealership about 20 miles away and they were having a "Blowout Weekend Sale" on all inventory. That's always a big red flag in my book but decided to check it out anyway. Prior to going, I had seen a Silverado that had everything I was looking for as well as a "Sale Price". I had called the dealership a couple days prior to sale and was told that the advertised price was correct. I also went back and saw that this truck had been on the lot for several months.

After arriving, I did a test drive and was really interested. In windshield was an additional label showing dealer added accessories and an updated price. I asked the salesman about the discrepancy and he said that the advertised "Sale Price" was not including the dealer added stuff. The ad ons increased the price by several thousand dollars. We haggled back and forth on this and I even produced the printer ad showing all these add one listed in the ad. The salesman knew this was going to be a problem so of course, he had to reach out to the "Manager". So now with manager involved, salesman says write down what price I was willing to pay.

I wrote down $1000 less than the advertised price. He then disappeared for about 10 minutes. When he came back, he brought the manager with and they began telling me that the add ons were not included in price and I then showed the manager my copy of the ad listing everything. They both walked away for some time. After returning, they informed me that the truck was just sold to someone else. I flipped out on them and left. I immediately went to another dealership but in next state over an hour away. A couple hours later, I left in a brand new Silverado with the equipment I wanted a fair trade in value, and a price I was more than happy with.

And strange enough, that first truck was still showing up in their ads for several weeks after that...

Oh my goodness! I had completely forgotten about a similar scenario when trying to buy a Durango in MD in 1999! Couldn't do it with a dealer I had previously bought a 99 Ram 3 months earlier. They wouldn't budge and wanted to sell me a demo (with 2500 miles as "new" - the owner's daughter had been driving it) as "new", bought a similar (only difference was color) at a one of their competitors for $2K less, drove it to the initial dealer to show it to the salesman (yeah, I was being a "Richard") and then they had the nerve to ask if I wanted to buy a service contract! Fast forward - they eventually went bankrupt 10 years later. F'em.

I talked to a dealer Friday that was in Va. He was the most personable friendly guy for a salesman you would want to meet.

He worked a price for me on a FW and almost had me. We were down to the last $2K and he couldn't go any lower.

Those fees will get them everytime.
Too bad it was a nice looking trike.

Sometimes it’s just about how much we want stuff … I would have a tough time walking away from what I wanted for $2k … especially on a purchase where very little change will occur for that amount of money.

Hope you find something cool 😎

Harley dealers, actually all vehicle dealers know that there are two catagories of buyers. 1- Cash buyers and 2- Finance/Payment buyers. Cash buyers view the purchase process much differently than Payment buyers, as Cash buyers are only interested in an out the door, no BS price. I suspect that the "I'm happy with just paying MSRP" folks fall into the latter category and are largely the group driving the market price, because they are the greater percentage of buyers. Add to that, dealers often make as much on the F&I and PG&A as they do on the vehicle itself. (Finance & Insurance, extended warranties as well as Parts, Garments & Accessories) all of which can be added into the amount financed, so the dealers lean strongly towards selling to the latter finance/payment buyer group as they will net a much higher profit. I hope this helps those baffled by the unwillingness of most Harley dealers to make deals with cash buyers.

It was just the principle that they wouldn't move off those extra charges that made me determined that I wasn't either.
There is a glut of bikes out there. I will find a price I can live with this one just wasn't it.

Ended up buying my 2022 Mineral Green Denim Enthusiast Edition in Mar 2024 w/800 miles on it...at least $4K less than the only 3 that were on Cycle Trader at the time. Bought it in Daytona at the Indian dealer that took it in the day before on trade. The day before the official start of Bike Week, my buddies saw it there and knew I was casually looking and told me about it at 5PM. I was there when they opened the next morning, put a $7500 credit card deposit down,(yes, they took a CC deposit, so I got a few CC Rewards points!), w/ free delivery 180 miles away, free lifetime battery replacement, and installed In Touch GPS tracking system (financed it for 4 years with it stipulated no penalty for early payoff in the contract), paid it off in 2 weeks. The stars and the moon aligned!
