2014 Trike upper fork bracket safety recal

This was posted on another forum by a guy that works at a Harley dealer.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a de- fect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain model year 2014 Trike family motorcycles built 7/24/2013 through 9/2/2013 for the U.S. and some world markets. On some of these motor- cycles, the Upper Fork Stem Bracket, P/N 45900027, was machined incorrectly, allowing more steering angle than design intent. If not addressed, this condition could allow contact of the inner fairing with the rear brake fluid reservoir, which may result in a loss of rear brake fluid, leading to a reduction in rear brake performance. It could also allow the steering damper to act as the steering stop. If this occurs, it may lead to damage to the steering damper, which could affect steering. If this condition remains undetected it could cause a crash resulting in injury or death of the rider.

For HD to issue an actual recall (as opposed to all the "unofficial" recalls when complaining) is near unheard of. Sounds actually serious.
I'll leave the comments about "less" rear braking power alone.

Dawg... The HDF member that posted this is a great guy and respected member. He's been known to go way out of his way to provide useful info, specs, recalls or about anything you need.

My bet is each of you guys with the 14's will get the letter but you can go to your bike and turn the bars from stop to stop. If the steering damper stops the bars then you will need to have HD fix it.

Rarely will a rider turn the bar all the way to the stop when riding so this will be a low level safety recall.
