14" ProAction vs Nextgen shocks

Anyone have experience with both, any reason to go with one vs the other for 2018 Triglide

Just thought I would throw this out there, I don't think anybody has had both, I could be wrong. You might get somebody saying about the one they have and how much they like it.

Good luck

Yes I’ve had both. The Pro Actions are a huge improvement over stock. Ran them on my 2018 and now on my 2020. Wife was still not happy with quality of ride so when DK brought out the NexGen shocks I got them. We both agree they are an improvement over the PAs. Hard to quantify how much but we think noticeable. Either is a good choice but Kevin and his crew spent quite a long time and significant $$ to take the next step forward in ride quality and scored imo.

I have ridden both

I bought my ProAction shocks a couple of years before the NexGen shocks came out and they are a huge improvement over stock suspension. I was lucky enough to ride Kevin's trike with NexGen prototypes a few times and each set was better than the next. I rode the final prototype a couple years ago at the Arizona gathering and they are really smooth.

While I am very happy with my ProAction shocks I would choose Nexgen. I went with the best available at the time. They are both very good but NexGen is the better of the two.

Just curious did you go with the 14" next gen with lift kit or the 13" with lift kit. I have a lift kit now from DK and thinking of shocks but would have to go with the 13" next gen since I don't need another lift kit/

I know windsurfed1 went with 13" next gen since he had the lift kit already but also went with the intimators in the front end, he did a video on youtube about the ride and he took one of the worst roads in town where he lives, he is very happy.

Did you do anything to the front end of your bike??

I only put around 1,000 to 1,300 miles a year on my trike, I'm trying to justify the expense of the shocks or keep the air shocks, once I get to highway it is not bad, I try not to drive in town because of the potholes and everything else that Des Moines won't fix.

I would personally ask DK. I have the comfort lift and 14” PA on my 14

I have14” NexGen shocks with the DK lift kit which is made for their 14” shocks. I have Legend Axeo cartridges in the front forks.

You could also consider the Bitubo shocks from DK if you’re on a budget like I am. I’m very satisfied with them on my Freewheeler. There are better units out there but these are a huge improvement over the stock air shocks.

+1 Bitubo shocks had them on my 16 Tri. Was a great ride!

We have a few Customers (Ultrafxr being one of them, myself being another) that have run the PA 14" shocks and the NexGen™ Shocks.

There is a report on how they compare to each other at this LINK.

They are all better than stock, by quite a bit.

Also, in the above linked report you can see how the Twin Adjustable Shocks (Bitubo) scored, which was quite well.

The 13" NexGen™ shocks for the HD Trikes have the same 4" of travel as the 14" NexGen™ shocks. The ride is indistinguishable between the two.

If you already have the Convertible Comfort Lift for the factory shocks (or other 13" shocks), then getting the 13" NexGen™ will give you the best possible ride quality. No need to swaps shocks and Comfort Lift to the 14".

Always feel free to email or call with any questions at the contact info below.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from reading this and what I understand from DK website, I have a 2022 TriGlide so my best option would be the 13" shocks with no need for the lift kit? I am brand new to the Harley family and am learning daily so thank you in advance.

You are correct, there is no need for the Comfort Lift with the 13" NexGen shocks.

However, it will sit a bit higher in the rear with it than without it.

It will also steer a bit easier and it will be a little more plush a ride.

Going from your OEM shocks that have no sag to the NexGen, which do have the proper amount of sag, means the rear of the Trike will sit a bit lower than stock if there is no Comfort Lift.

Either way your ride will be MUCH Better.

So is there any benefit of the 14's over the 13's or vise versa? Thanks

There is a theoretical benefit of the 14" over the 13". They have a slightly larger internal reservoir. This is not something you can feel in the riding.

After we had developed and been making the 14" Trike Series Shocks with the 4" of travel, we discovered that we could get the same 4" of travel out of a 13" shock.

Benefit of the 13" shock is that you can use the standard Comfort Lift, or no Lift kit at all.

I would not hesitate to run either on my Trike.
