My Mother hated the Japs. You didn't talk about them around her. She never did get over it.

You know Yamamoto gold the Japanese Government that if they didn't bring the USA to it's knees in the first 6 months of the war, they would loose the war. Oh, how true it was! He understood the might of the USA, once all the people started to pull together.

My Mother hated the Japs. You didn't talk about them around her. She never did get over it.

All my Grandparents were like that, my Dad & 4 Uncles served in WWll, 3 Uncles fought the japs, 2 were shot up by the japs & 1 never did fully recover from what they did to him. The stories I overheard when my Dad & Uncles talked with each other were horrible, none would ever really talk to me about it, but I heard plenty when they didn't know I was around.

I remain in awe of the generation that fought that war and secured the freedoms we enjoy. My dad was merchant marine. A fact most don't realize, the merchant marines suffered more casualties per capita than any other service branch, including the marine corps.

I'm disappointed how every year Pearl Harbor Day seems to get less and less coverage. My local paper didn't even mention it on the front page. I guess thugs rioting and looting for Reboks is more important to the media.
