I rode with stock coilovers on my 2020 for about a year before changing them out. They are definitely better than air shocks. I found it was best to run them way softer than the manual calls for. I usually ran them on about zero on the preload scale.
I completely agree with the comment about...
I frankly don't believe stories of 280 to 300 OIL TEMP. Engine or cylinder temp sure. Not oil temp. I have never seen anything higher than 230 at the dip stick on my flrt, even in 95 degree FL roasting.
Also, to my knowledge there is no oil temp sensor from the factory on the m8. There...
Welcome to the discussion I'm glad you joined in. Since you must have the owner's ear it would be great to encourage him to get involved with this discussion and provide some details
That's interesting. I'd like to know some specifics such as ..
How much wheel travel as compared to stock and what shocks are used.
Has anyone here actually rode one?
I don't think there is a thermostat and bypass, I think it circulates through the cooler all the time. The cooler fan does switch on at a particular temperature. Your temps are fine.
How long did you ride for?
I will see 200 to 210 after long rides (1 hr plus) in 70 deg ambient. Highest I see is 225 after a long ride on a really hot (85 to 90) day. This is on a 2020 FLRT with a cam, pv tune, and de-catted header pipe.
After riding 2 wheels for around 40 years I switched to trikes about 10 years ago. Just a different experience and I will never go back to 2.
I describe the experience as "driving a sports car from a motorcycle position"
There is nothing wrong with 230 deg F peak oil temp, especially if you run full synthetic (which you should). I never see anything higher that 225 and I just have the stock cooler.
