Harley mufflers on a gl1500

Check w/a dealer. It is almost mandatory:Dto spend hundreds of dollars to make one's HD as loud as possible! A lot of dealer's have so many OEM take off mufflers, most get tossed. You can score these for free from a lot of dealers!

Never dealt with any sportster mufflers but I have used some hd touring mufflers because of the east to mount. They sound good if you get the right one.

Shouldn't have too much of a problem it being a goldwing.
wonder if a set of CVO mufflers would do. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Dyna bikes and sportsters have close the same length and mounting. I have used a set of HD SE off road mufflers on my vtx. They sounded great.
Only difference between touring and sportsters/dyna bikes are mainly the length of the mufflers, mounting is close to the same.
I do a lot of fab work for folks to make things fit.
What is your objective?
Cheap but short mufflers?
Are you not able to use the stock gl1500 mufflers?
If there's room for the muffler I can make it work.
Then maybe I am confused.

I only have 24" between the rear and end the back of the trike body. I have played the shin game way to many times with hitch's and exhaust. So i want to have the tips only an in past the body. the 1500's are to long as well as the 1800's I have both. So Just purchased a set of Dyna glide mufflers for 50.00 shipped. as for fab work I would have to do to much to get anything other than a 20" muffler to fit. the one O bought are 19". Just wasn't sure about back pressure as so on.

Dyna mufflers will have good back pressure. They have a cone that is punched in the inner body forcing the air to move around it this gives good back . So you have 19inches total for the muffler? correct?

I have a lot of mufflers and I can measure them for you and give you a idea what might work.

This is what I purchased to put on. Dyna wide glide. Picked them up for 50 shipped. And yes I have about 21.5 to 21.750" to play with. These measure 19".

Anyone have any input on a set of harley 883 1200 mufflers on a gl1500.

My 06 Venture Midnight with a Hannigan conversion
has LA Choppers exhaust pipes--loud. You can see the bike #73 under Yamaha Trikes here, unfortunately not the pipes. I love these loud pipes. A HD friend said they sound "mean." I rode with quiet pipes for 20 plus years; will probably not go back. I want those in vehicles drivers who are zoned out on "whatever" to hear me.

WOW, straight pipes, no mufs, that's go to be loud?

Actually it is not all that loud. Sounds like a Porsche at speed and just a low rumble at idle. I know of a couple of others who have the exact same set up. It only cost a $100 at the local muffler shop.
Happy trails
Kent

I have ridden with Kent at the 3rd Western Rally in Cedar this fall and his bike has a very nice mellow sound. It is really amazing considering there is no muffler at all. Ghalib had that done to his bike while we were and really liked the change.

I would have thought the low end would have been hurt with no back pressure.

Did you get the HD mufflers installed?

You do know that the newer Dyna bikes has the cat in the mufflers, don't you?

It has back pressure caused by the CAT. I don't know what kind of low end it is supposed to have, it is the only GL1800 I have ever driven more than around the block. But I have no complaints. My neighbors, GL1800 with Lehman conversion, is exactly the same as mine and he has no complaints and had mufflers on his for years before doing the conversion to go mufflerless.:)

What I was referring to is low end TQ. Say 1,500 rpms to say 3,000 rpms.
Yes the cat does add back pressure but due to the design of the muffler it adds to it.

When you get some time to ride let us know how it does.

I have ridden this from LA to DC an back. I have no problems at all, as far as power in the 1500 to 3000 rpm seems to do just fine. My neighbor cybervet has an 01 that he did the conversion on and made the cross country trip as well and never has mentioned any adverse effects of no mufflers. Saltywheels has converted his to no mufflers. He had it done here in Cedar City at last years Western Rally and rode it home to California and didn't tell me of any issues with his GL.

Cavie: LOL Just looking for something that will fit in the space i have that's priced right... Used ones for 40.00

Dogman: Any ideas that would be helpful.

I mount them on my Yamaha Venture all the time. Simple bracket. Before popping for used set, drop by your local Harley dealer. Some have been known to give them away....

With stock HD mufflers is the touring models has a extra baffle in the left Side muffler. Much more restricted. The Dyna bikes has the cat in the muffler. Again restriction.
